Yeah there's "Joey's Only Seafood", with the s on Joey. Then there's "Joey Restaurant", with no s on Joey. I haven't been to the seafood place in forever.

I've been to Joey a couple times and was not impressed. Rather go to Earl's. Moxie's has now discontinued the Xiango dessert(pronounced chango, but spelled with an X), so they are less desirable to me now.

Hello Winnipeg, we're coming to Winnipeg this Fri. July 19th for the Argo/Bomber game and especially to check out your beautiful new stadium. We're looking for a high-end restaurant for a nice Sat. night dinner. Someone mentioned the Wellington to us, any comments?

529 Wellington is your typical stodgy steakhouse.

However if you have a smaller party I would do something a bit more unique and go to Segovia, Pizzeria Gusto, Inferno's Bistro or Peasant Cookery. They aren't the most expensive restaurants (if that is your definition of "high end") but they certainly have fantastic chefs/food.

The first three also have EXCELLENT patios to enjoy the warm Winnipeg weather.

I also recommend Deer+Almond or The Gates on Roblin. The Gates is a bit out of the way, so it might not be an option.

^Yup, Joey Tomatoe's Italian Kitchen. I wish I had photos from the 1st location here on Jasper... common long tables, $12-15, very very different.

529 Wellington is a pretty respectable steakhouse, and it's certainly at the top of its price point. I enjoy the mini education they give you on the various cuts of meat (nothing like looking at a try of raw meat before you eat). Anyway, if you want something NOT in the steakhouse category, there's lots of other great choices.

Personally, I like to take my out of town guests to one of the many smaller, funky places like Bistro 7 1/4, Cafe Carlo, Fusion Grill, In Ferno's (the St. Boniface location only), Cafe Dario, Peasant Cookery, etc. Most have diverse menus, lots of locally sourced ingredients, and a cozy/funky ambiance.

Hermanos on Bannatyne is my top favorite. It's at the lower end of the high price range and the steak is amazing.

I couldn't agree more. I do enjoy a good steak now and again and while you obviously can't argue with 529's quality, it is lacking a bit in imagination.

Judging by their parking lot which always looks like a luxury car showroom, they certainly have a well-heeled and loyal clientele. But personally, I find that the other places mentioned above deliver much more interesting dining experiences.

I'm a fan of Hy's and Carnaval - as far as places that have not been mentioned go. Great locations downtown in my opinion.

That's too bad. Use to be a favorite of mine, but it has been a couple of years since I've been. Sorry to hear it's gone down hill.

What's holding up Harvey's starting work on the contentious Stafford and Corydon location? I'm really getting tired of that eyesore

You too? Every time I get a coffee or ice cream for my kid across the street I say the same thing.

Restaurateur takes new spin at revolving room
Bernier says time is right for Prairie 360
By Kevin King

Quote:
Bernier describes the space as a complex, with a number of private rooms available, a rooftop patio expected, and a huntsman's lodge-style whiskey bar one floor below the restaurant.
Can't wait for the launch in October. Bring your camera, amazing views of Winnipeg from this location.
Rooftop patio?? Can't wait! Whiskey bar is a nice touch.

With a restaurant name like that, is it any wonder why they didn't survive???? What goes through some business peoples' minds really boggles me.

^^^ Great post. Maybe "Yesterday's Coffee Cafe"? "Fukushima Sushi",(no disrespect to the what happened) or "BBQ Rancid Beef Bistro".

Maybe, just a thought, they were catering to a more ,Goth, dark brooding type of patron.
