Yeah you're right it's probably soil samples, that's what me and my bf thought when we walked by but I just said driving piles cause it looks like a pile driver.

Yup, a Geotech report is mandatory as part of permit application. Even more so for large towers like this so it will be at least a month or two before any formal permit applications are made and of course that is pending official release of the DP.

My bet is that they will go for an excavation/shoring permit to at least start the dig. I can't see what obstacles there would be for applying this other than possibly the geo report and a decently complete drawing set which will be hundreds of pages of various disciplines. Time is moving by fast, before we know it there will be luffer cranes perched inside the pit.

There's an excavator on-site this morning. Not doing anything yet. But it's there.

Here's hoping they can get a shoring permit, though that's usually part of the BP and AFAIK they don't have a DP yet.

There's a sign on the 1st Street side of the lot saying "WARING: Open excavation in progress" so... that might be something

If the rumours about Cenovus signing as a lead tenant are true, I'd expect this to begin construction before September pending BP approval.

Glad Ellis Don got the contract. They are proving to be very worthy of big projects in this city with their quick and efficient work style!

Currently, the route for the servicing (utilities) is underway in autocad land. It is still progressing.

Its crazy how much Calgary has changed in 8 years.....and the next three will be quite something as well. The density is getting amazing for such a small place. Actually, most of the Canadian cities are impressive these days.

As there's no residential component, this building doesn't need to market itself as much. Especially if the rumours of having a lead tenant already secured are true.

On a technical note, the rendering still shows the 17 storey BVS 1 sited behind the Len Werry building (where the Grand theatre actually is), and not across 6th Avenue to the north and behind the new Brookfield monolith in the BVS complex (where it actually belongs).

I guess nobody but skyscraper geeks would notice that though, eh?
