I agree that Houston and Los Angeles' skylines are a little sparse given their size. San Farncisco and Miami's skylines are both kind of bland in my opinion (outside the Transamerica Pyramid).

Miami and Los Angeles are two of my favorite skylines.

Seattle, doesn't do it for me, and neither does Houston. SF - meh....

Something cool to think of.... right now, Toronto has 11 buildings (including CN Tower) which exceed 200m in height that are built. There are currently an additional 12 buildings under construction or approved by the city which will exceed 200m which will all be finished within 5 years. On top of that, there are between 16 and 20 "proposals" over 200m, some realistic, others not, that could also be constructed within a 4 to 15 year time frame. I realize half of these proposals will never see the light of day, but even if half of them materialize that would take Toronto's 200m building count to well over 30! Considering the city already looks great with 11, I simply cannot imagine what it will look like come 5 years from now, and then 10-15 years from now, especially if we compare it to a photo from 2000-2005 time frame. Will we even recognize it?

Something Else to Think About... that i mentioned in another thread.

Even with the depressed sales numbers in Toronto right now, developers are still selling, sight unseen new units every month equal to filling a tower of 120 floors. Break it down and that translates into two 60 floor towers, or three 40 floor towers, or four 30 floor towers. And that's just new condo units, never mind resale condos.

So even those "fantasy proposed towers", if ever approved by City Hall could still be sold out in a few months, which is not bad considering the true sales timeline will likely be closer to a year, especially if they are all on the market at the same time and monopolizing all condo sales. (which of course is unlikely)

Last word was that it was at 85%. Construction due to start in the fall.

That is really awesome. I'm a big fan of the curtainwall up the north side wall.

I know we all love to hate the redesigned roof of 88 Scott, but if executed properly, I think it could/will be a major win for the Toronto megaboom.

One thing I really like about Calgary's skyline is the density of buildings.

Miami has really improved in the last ten years, San Francisco will improve with Transbay. I'd consider Seattle's better than any of the ones you listed.

Totally agree about Houston and LA, both could use a bunch more 30-40 storey towers to fill in the skylines. San Francisco is nice because it has a variety of different styles like Montreal Does, and all the hills add another element. I think Seattle has a great Skyline too, nice and modern.

SanFran is very underrated in my opinion; great layers, great history some interesting talls and great density. Seattle also has a really nice form, however with less history and layers.

All in all I'd say outside of the big 3 NA skylines there is a huge second set of good skylines that are all comparable and preference will dictate where people rank them.

I personally prefer a San Fran or Calgary over Houston etc but I totally understand where someone is coming from prefering Houston. When you see Houston in person, it's DAMN tall and feels really imposing.

Edmonton is actually quite nice in the summer. If you find the right angle the skyline can look imposing. However, it is harder to find a good angle because Edmonton is quite flat. Calgary has better sight lines because of the change in elevation around the city.

That, was a very nice response.
As familiar as the CN Tower view is, the ever changing skyline of the city continues to make it interesting.

I also used to find the Toronto island's view less than pleasing, since it hadn't changed much in nearly 2 decades. But city place, southcore, the buildings in and around the entertainment district & L tower have really extended the skyline east-to-west making it arguably the best view of the city now. Where as I used to favor the views from Humber Bay & Riverdale park.
