I know that. I meant in relative to our times. There is hardly a single interesting-looking skyscraper in all of Toronto. I mean this when referring to people who aren't skyscraper enthusiasts and wouldn't even know the name Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (most of humanity). I don't think a ton of people look up at FCP, TD Centre, or Trump and think "wow that's a nice building," because they're just boxy buildings. While on the contrary, people look up at the Bow and think "holy shit, that's cool" (I know this from experience, as I just toured a couple of friends from Vancouver for their first times ever in Calgary, this week) and same with EAP. Suncor not so much, but for it's day it was wicked, and still looks fantastic.

Royal Bank Plaza, Scotia Plaza and now L Tower have some strong "wow" factor, IMO.

Canada Trust tower is over 200 metres and it doesn't have a flat roof, neither does trump.

Don't forget the CN Tower which at almost 2000 feet also has some wow factor.

....also, no flat roof! Lol!

You're definitely right about RBC Plaza and Scotia Plaza. However, in regard to L Tower, I clearly said completed buildings. L Tower, Ritz, and a few others have/will definitely change(d) Toronto's architectural status. Then again, catastrophe's that have been allowed to happen, such as Trump and 300 Front, have weakened its position somewhat.

That is what Caltrane was getting at, and also due to the large breadth of our financial/office core in relation to Toronto's. Ours is just much wider while Toronto's is more concentrated. You do realize that you're comparing your city with 2.8 million people and the core of a megaregion over 9 million people to a city of 1.3 million and thinking you're so superior, right? Give it a rest. We all know you think Toronto is the greatest.
Lol man you need to chill out. Calgarys buildings are nothing special , no different than any other city. With the exception of The Bow, Calgary does not have any visually appealing buildings. Thats my opinion. To say they are some special design is a little much. The comparison should never be made period. It's ridiculous. But I guess everyone can think what they like. I'm sure there are people out there who think Yellowknife has a nicer skyline than NYC. Each to their own, it just angers me to see people clearly object to the obvious.

But seriously ... You need to control your responses. Even if you disagree with me and believe I have a love for Toronto. It's no different than your biased obsession with Cow Town. It's a part of life you'll have to deal with.

Lol maybe you should tour people around Toronto. Your opinion would change. I just recently brought my cousins downtown Toronto and they live in Calgary and they were going on about how huge Toronto is and how big and impressive the buildings are. They complimented the CN Tower, L Tower, Scotia Plaza, TD Towers, Shangri-La, and many others! I've heard these comments from every single person I've shown around. Toronto has some awesome buildings, and because it's so big they also have some crappy ones. Just wait til Calgary starts getting some residential towers, you'll start getting the odd crappy design.

You're ridiculous. You think my support for nice architecture means I have a bias obsession with "Cow Town"? That's funny. It's even funnier that you think you know anything about me haha. I have lived in Toronto (grew up near there as well), Ottawa, Kelowna, and Vancouver. You're saying that just because I live somewhere that I have a bias obsession with the city? No. I just defend against ridiculous assertions made by jerks with crazy superiority complexes.

That superiority complex is clearly exemplified by your derogatory use of the colloquial name "Cow Town."

I'll control my responses when you control your ignorance.

"the odd crappy design" ??? So you're inferring that only a few of Toronto's residential towers have crappy designs? That's a laugh. In fact it's the opposite, only the odd design is nice/passable.

I think Montreal wins myself. Le 1000 rue de la Gauchetière is my favourite major skyscraper.

The ignore list is a beautiful thing.

Getting back on topic... this is one of my favorite pics I've taken of Calgary this summer. Not sure if I posted it yet. It was taken during the disaster last month.

Don't do that!

Jeez... I feel like I need to get my volcano out, and vaporise you and Travis into laughter.

All this Calgary vs Toronto nonsense. You two need to visit Halifax: a city with a real skyline

I love Halifax's skyline already! But I do plan to visit someday.

Thank you for saying this. Anytime certain people like to compliment their own city, Chad completely shoots them down if their opinion doesn't coincide with his, simply because his word is written in stone, even if it's their own opinion. Some people's superiority complex and ignorance on this site is baffling.

... Do I need to get you stoned, too?

Your post only serves to fuel the fire, when their argument had just ended. They disagree with each other. Let it be.

An "argument" about comparing two skylines shouldn't be an argument of more than two people.

Again, the ignore list is a beautiful thing. Idiots can be idiots, I just don't need to constantly see it.

I don't get it. He started shooting down everyone's support of Calgary long before I even responded to the discussion. But I digress, this continuing discussion has been rehashed dozens of times, and it will be dozens more in the future. So whatever.

When you see Toronto you know it's Toronto automatically, nothing else looks similar anywhere (that I'm aware). Plus it's just badass besides being unique.

I don't see any of this as "dick swinging" either it's just a debate on skylines in a thread about skylines on a skyscraper forum...what are we supposed to talk about?
I think Calgary's more recognizable angle is from the south with the Saddledome, bankers hall twins, calgary tower and the Bow all visible with maybe a hint of the Rockies in the background.

No offence Chadillac, but you did sort of get carried away there a little bit . Travis3000 is definitely not the biased sort, he's always going on about how Montreal is his favourite city and seems to be quick to share the love with many cities on these boards. I believe he was just responding to one post but you made some very big generalizations about his intentions. Anyway, I say this as someone who appreciates your many contributions to this board and interesting insights, but once in a while I see threads like this where you completely lose it and I'm like "is this the same guy?"

Remember gents, wooosaaaa....

Its like you felt the need to be-little Calgary with the 'Cow town' remark. That was pretty lame.
