Construction of the Inlet Centre Station at Ioco and Barnet promises to be tricky for both work crews and drivers, who will have to find an alternate route when the bridge is completely closed for the Thanksgiving Day long weekend in October.

An artist's rendering shows two entrances to the Inlet Centre Station, allowing passengers to access it from either side and then head down to a lower-level platform.

"The station design is responsive to the community's desire to not have an elevated station," Farrell said. "It's the most complex station on the alignment and I think it will be fantastic when finished."

Building the platform under the road represents "a big huge piece of engineering that's not commonplace for this area," said PoMo's senior project manager James Chandler. "It's quite a unique and exciting project."

That's because the way to get a station platform underneath an existing major intersection — there's no room for lane relocations needed for cut-and-cover construction — is by "tunnel jacking."

Crews will be working non-stop over the three-day weekend to shove the concrete tunnel box — all 35 metres and 4,000 tonnes of it — from the east entrance and "pushing and jacking" it into place.

"The road will be cut and opened up by multiple excavators as the tunnel is pushed through," Chandler said, "then back-filled in...resurface the road and it's through in three days."

But there's plenty of work to be done before that feat of engineering, he added, mainly in moving the city utilities running through the area.

I'm sorry to bring this up again, but I wanted to further comment on the station designs for the Evergreen Line. Station architecture is I think my favourite aspect of a new line, so I looked at the renders again closely and have formed some opinions.

Lougheed: I mentioned my comment on this earlier, but basically we are getting a watered down version of the original design. There are some interesting additional stairway and entrance canopies but the platform canopy itself appears to be white with blue glass, quite different from the dark grey of the rest of the station. The brochure says that this 'complements the open-air design of the existing station,' whatever that means.

Moody Centre: A cool, curvy, multi-layered wood design, though it has the 'thin' feel of the Richmond Canada Line Stations. I think this one will look great in the end. Also, it will be the first full-sized at-grade Skytrain Station we've had since the Expo Line (and even the at-grade stations on the Expo Line are partially below-grade), which is kind of interesting.

Inlet Centre: Another unique design, caused by topography and the desires of the community I guess. The station houses look like mini Templeton Stations, and seem to have more mass than the other canopies on the Evergreen Line. I think this one too will look great, but I am curious to find out how the below-grade parts of the station will look.

Burquitlam, Coquitlam Centre and Lincoln: These are all carbon copies of Marine Drive Station, aside from the 40m extension past the escalator areas. I guess this is because all three have the exact same station context/placement (in terms of surrounding roads), are fully elevated, and have side platforms. It's kind of too bad, but like people discussed before, this design is efficient and effective. At least some of the entrance features are distinct.

Lafarge Lake - Douglas: Lastly, the station with the unfortunate name, and to go with it, the unfortunate design. As it is an island platform (terminus stations often are), I guess they couldn't just do another Burquitlam, so they decided on something even less inspiring. I'm not sure if they ran out of money after deciding to add Lincoln Station or what, but it seems like the designers chose the cheapest looking (flat?) canopy and threw on some glass walls around the station and called it a day. I'm hoping there will be some updates to this one, because as of right now, it will be the Bridgeport of the Evergreen Line.

In all honesty though, no matter the end design, i just can't wait for the day I can ride it and check out the stations in person. I'm so happy it was changed to Skytrain and we got legit platform lengths. No more toy stations!

The tunnel under westbound Barnet Highway seems to be completed and back filled. The westbound lanes will be shifting back to the original position on top of the tunnel very soon.

I'm confused about the diagram for Lougheed. Maybe I missed an update in this massive thread but I thought once Evergreen is active, the trains will be:

Millenium = Waterfront > Lougheed
Evergreen = VCC Clark > Lafarge Lake Douglas

Is that still the case?

If so their diagram doesn't actually make much sense. The purple through track on the bottom wouldn't be through anymore as that is the old Millenium line, and the "through" towards Lafarge Lake Douglas has no switch over.

Or are they going to switch trains before Lougheed which to me seems a bit needless... does anyone have a better train movement diagram or am I just off my rocker? If you can point me to a quote where this was covered I can't seem to find it here.

I believe the plan is/was as follows: (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

--> TRACK TO COQUITLAM   -->
<-- TRACK TO VCC CLARK    <--

||| TRACK TO WATERFRONT -->

In essence, the platforms will retain the same destinations as before... which would be simple if not for the fact that the track to Coquitlam is on the wrong side of the road!

(insert switch-o-rama here)

Someone finally posted pics of REAL progress and all people seem to care about is that stupid Lougheed track system whose discussion already constitute a huge bulk of this so called "massive thread"...sheesh!

Anyways, thanks for the pics Steelwheels! Much appreciated providing us image updates. Looks like we should be seeing some more columns go up fairly soon in the Burquitlam area...

Here! Latest version of the Lougheed trackworks saga, goes on for a few pages.

I'm sure there is a lot more than that throughout this massive thread.

Thanks for the update above, nice to actually see some physical progress now, surprised by the column already being erected.

Just a small nit pick, can you post smaller sizes of the photos next time?

They are also start digging the pit where TBM will go in at the north portal.

Crappy photo taken 2 weeks ago on a fast-moving #190 showing how much they cut through the side of the hill:

The pit is a bit deeper now, probably already below surface..

It's good to see real construction progress underway. Everything looks like it is coming together. Perhaps I'll take a ride on the 97 B-Line and find out for myself.

they posted pics of the south portal on facebook

Crews continue their work on the abutment or support structure for the south tunnel portal in Burquitlam. The Evergreen Line guideway will descend to ground level along the west side of Clarke Road before entering a two-kilometre tunnel at the abutment.

Getting ready for one of several concrete pours for the abutment construction at the south tunnel portal.

Inside the wooden framework of the abutment are steel rebar reinforcements that are formed in place. This process differs for the columns for the guideway, where rebar cages will be pre-fabricated to speed up the construction process.

Here's your chance to watch Evergreen Line construction online! Two webcams have been set up for the public at the north tunnel portal area and near the Moody Centre Station construction site in Port Moody. Check it out: http://www.evergreenline.gov.bc.ca/newsroom.htm

The position of the Barnet highway north/south view is a bit weird. You cannot see most of the construction work as the tunnel is out of view, directly below the camera location. I guess using those 2 views as a traffic cam is a better use, as you can clearly see how much the traffic is backing up
