Both of those are excellent design districts. Seems to me you'd also have to include areas like ADAC, Bennett Street and maybe a few others. Jane Marsden and some of the galleries and shops in the Buckhead Village are not exactly chopped liver.

North Ave sightings

That second crane on site at the Proton project seems mighty tall for this structure. Any one know why?
Also
Site is being cleared and prepped for apts on shelf directly above Masqerade on North.

But yeah, sticking by my prediction that it will soon be filled with parked cars, delivery trucks, etc. Hope I am wrong!

That really irks me how some people can be so ignorant about this kind of stuff. Every time I see a car "parked" on a crosswalk, I get the urge to slide across the hood of it, Starsky and Hutch style!

So the crane can perform a 360 degree rotation without hitting The Ponce condos

I seriously doubt that would happen. APD would ticket those vehicles and/or have them towed and impounded ASAP. Tons of revenue to be had.

Who are they going to be delivering packages to, the park?

J/K, I do hope your prediction proves false. I, for one, am pretty stoked to try this out. While I'm generally pretty comfortable accessing the beltline via Monroe, it'll be nice to have a sanctioned, non-awkward way to get on/off.

Maybe it missed it. How long is this? Just on 10th from Peachtree to Monroe?

New Ice Hockey Rink

Source: http://www.reporternewspapers.net/2013/07/17/beat-the-heat-sandy-springs-attracts-ice-hockey-rink/

Posted by Joe Earle on July 17, 2013.

"Sandy Springs soon could be hosting ice hockey tournaments and birthday parties on ice.

A Sandy Springs hotel company plans to build an ice rink near the intersection of Roswell Road and I-285.

Mike Aldredge, president of Squire Inn Inc., said he has secured the needed city approvals for the 31,000-square-foot facility and hopes to begin construction next month. “We would like to open next spring,” he said.

The facility will be open year-round and will include a rink for skating and hockey, locker rooms, a snack bar and a pro shop. The business will offer skate rentals, skating lessons, a place to hold birthday parties and summer camps for skating and hockey, he said. The rink also will attract matches between traveling hockey teams, he said.

Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos announced the facility during a chat with the Sandy Springs Rotary Club on July 15. “We are getting a first-class ice hockey facility,” she said.

Aldredge said the rink will be built on vacant land his company owns that most recently had been the site of a Days Inn hotel. The hotel was demolished in 2007, he said, and the company had been looking for “the right opportunity” to redevelop the land.

Aldredge said he was interested in the proposed ice rink because he had coached teams in local hockey leagues when his son played. “I’ve been involved in the hockey community here in Atlanta since the late ‘90s,” he said. “I know everybody here in our community.”

*** A Video Construction Update for July is currently IN THE WORKS! *** Stay tuned, lots to report!

I believe this is just the first phase. It currently goes from Monroe to Charles Allen. Midtown Alliance says it's to extend to Piedmont, but their map shows it going all the way to almost Northside:

That would not surprise me at all.

I can support this 2-way dedicated track going all the way to Peachtree... but taking a lane from westbound 10th between Peachtree and Northside (and I recognize some of this shows as a shared lane) is a huge mistake that I fear may lead to some bad car-bike interaction or a real traffic headache for the cars...

I must say I'm surprised to see a wooden frame being used to construct Crescent Terminus.
You'd think it would've been all concrete like the base, but no.

Uhh, I think we're missing something big on that map. It shows a planned bridge at 12th Street across the interstate (unless there's a tunnel I'm unaware of like at 3rd). Anyone have details?

The odd thing, though, is that a shiny new CBRE "For Sale" sign popped up on the other corner of that same site at 9th and Spring Street this week. When I saw that, I thought, "well, I guess Ambling decided not to go forward." Maybe CBRE is the broker that repped Ambling and they're getting in some free advertising before Ambling starts site work?

They probably should have built about a two feet wide curbed & planted buffer to separate the track from vehicle traffic...

Construction Update July

131 Ponce de Leon Ave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPRXyV9ieY0
Work continues as the ground floor goes up. There seems to be a lot of plywood that goes into construction of these apartments. I've been noticing this all around town.

Georgia Proton Treatment Center: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4Sl9sDn9jM
A rendering is up on site. Crews are pouring a lot of concrete on the foundations. They are building what looks like a massive concrete box (20'x40'x10' or so) with several pipes sticking out. Could this have something to do with the physical storage of the protons, the "ionizing radiation" or Radioisotopes if you will, used in this type of Cancer treatment? Now I'm no construction expert but from my understanding, Nuclear Reactors house their cores in concrete and water. I wonder if this is something similar or just simply a lot of concrete?

Tech Engineered Biosystems Building: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2_xwT_q0IE
Crews are still working on the foundation columns, of which there are a lot. I suppose there will be a heavy load/stress factor on this building considering lab equipment is heavy!

Atlanta Soka Gakkai Buddhist Center: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhgvPlIi9uM
The footprint of this building is very small. I can also confirm another surface parking lot surrounding. From the looks of it about 50% of the space will be for parking. Really, a tiny building (for Atlanta standards at least)...

Walton Westside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNTWYnIBsSE
Crews are working on the 2nd residential floor. The large parking deck shouldn't be visible from the street upon completion. Meanwhile traffic on Huff St. is getting worse! This is my 4th visit to this site over the past year or so and each time, there are more cars in this area. Kudos to infill but damn the traffic, MAN!

Crescent Terminus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNP70c-Of4M
Building 1's (closest to Terminus 100) first residential floor is being constructed on top of the parking deck. Building 2's ground floors are still being poured while over at Building 3 (farthest from Terminus 100) the foundations are being laid.

Camden Buckhead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjl8Aj7Xc0c
A 4-5 floor parking deck is going up on the back end of the property. It's currently visible from the road but I'm pretty sure it will be hidden once the buildings go up.

Stay tuned, more to come soon!
