Thanks for the Port Mann & SFPR pics. I noticed that you showed a section of widening at 248th...................exactly how wide is the section going to be and how far are they widening it to? It's absurd that the road is at least 8 lanes all the way to Chilliwack considering the amount of traffic on it.

The switchback road connecting Shea Heights to the Waterford Valley - both West End neighbourhoods of St. John's. Pitts Memorial Drive is the highway passing over. Bowring Park and the City of Mount Pearl constitute the background of the photo.

they're just widening the eastbound direction to add one more lane between 232 Street and 264 Street on Highway 1.

That's all. I'm in Ontario right now on vacation - BC highways need a lot of work, although things certainly have come a long long way.

#1 needs to be widened to Chilliwack as soon as possible.

It does not need to be 8 lanes though, that is overkill, it should be 6 lanes to Abbotsford for sure, but I have seem plenty of higher congested 4 lane highways in Europe and Japan than the #1 is between Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

Yeah, it is kind of a weird choice. A normal bridge would have been just fine. It will be pretty neat to see, though.

The Mackenzie River diversion of Hwy 11/17 should be nearly open to traffic by now if it isn't already. Vid, have you taken your tunnel through the trees easterly lately?

Last time I drove out east was early June, it wasn't open yet. Might be able to head up next week? Once that stretch opens it will be covered in local news, I'll post it here.

It will probably open sometime in the fall. When I drove down it in June, the diversion was starting the paving process, and just east of it, we were driving on the new east bound lanes while the old highway was being rebuilt as westbound lanes. They were just starting to build the new connection between the twinned highway and the old 11/17 (which will become an extension of Lakeshore Drive). Couldn't take pictures because I was driving and my didn't think to ask my friend to take some for me.

In Hamilton the city is doing several pilot test with permeable paving. Think Ontario will ever use permeable paving on the highways?

It's paving that allows movement of stormwater through the surface.

Drove along the 417 and A-30 Monday. The A-30 was actually surprisingly busy for a Monday at 9:30pm. Very smooth highway, the mini-tunnel was kind of neat.

417 widening to Kanata is well underway, grading is mostly complete, and some paving has started. I think it is adding an HOV lane, as well as a regular lane.

Also, does anyone know the status of the 417 extension? Is it funded?
