Yeah, the building would be much better without the tongue. it would even be fine if it wasn't painted white. Reminds me of a transportation hub. The rest is still beautiful.

Not sure why they didn't put solar panels on the roof. Maybe it'll be done in the future. I don't think that panels would be distracting. No one would see them. That is, unless, you are in an airplane.

I am moving to Salt Lake City, can anyone here suggest a good neigborhood. I have been living comfortacbly here in Houston Heights for a couple of years now and I am looking for a similar neigborhood in Salt Lake. Thanks

I think if you loved Houston Heights, you might like the Avenues best here in Salt Lake.

Another thing I noticed in the video is that Everen T Brown Advertising, which is located in one of the buildings being demolished is moving to the new building going up on the parking lot just north of where they currently are.

Sugar House is probably the nicest place to live near Salt Lake City. A lot of great small green neighborhoods. The most peaceful area would be behind the state capital building. Everything is yellow and dry but you can get some awesome views of the valley.

Yes, Sugarhouse is awesome.

Just to clarify for someone from out of town, Sugarhouse is a neighborhood IN SLC, not near it. And it is, in my opinion, the coolest neighborhood in the city.

I think Jedikermit said he was unable to photograph the facade during the open house due to various obstructions. The attempt at detailing at eye level is laudable but I think the material and color are not a completely successful combination with the upper stories.

Looks like Neumont classes have begun. More students downtown should help street life.

I hope those saplings grow up to be respectable size street trees; the Tribune Christmas tree there had real presence.

In other news of this 100 S block of Main: Ten Thousand Villages at north end of the west side appears to have left. Redhot, serving Kobe hotdogs and bahn mi, has just opened north of Lambs. Two empty storefronts on east side--one the former Brazilian buffet which Neumont contractors had been using as apparent job office/storage. Eva's Bakery has added a cinnamon bun which approaches the divine heights of Tulie's morning bun and Les Madeleines' kouing aman.

Yeah I'd say the Avenues or Sugarhouse are the best places to start. Avenues is cool eclectic neighborhood and very close to downtown in the foothills. Sugarhouse is more urban (kind of like SLC's "other" downtown) and has a lot of great development going on right now. Both have some great older housing with tons of charm. East downtown is a good option, too and has lots of larger apartment buildings (Avenues is mostly houses and small apartments or mother-in-laws, etc.).

I'd say the other areas take getting to know where is those ones instantly make you think, "I'm in love."

I walked by the Tribune Building this afternoon and I rather like the facade treatments that have been recently completed. It's leaps and bounds better than the granite tiles that were there before.

The CityScape Apartments on 400 East are all framed up. They're appyling exterior materials as we speak.

Last, Hamilton Partners is starting their due diligence for 111 S. Main. It looks like it is proposed at about 380 feet. I know it's just a little tidbit of information but I thought people may be interested.

Thanks for the info UTPlanner. At 380 feet, that would put it about 5 feet higher than 99 West. I think that would be great for that area. It's too bad they can't add 1 or 2 more floors and push it over 400. Not complaining though as 380 feet is a good height right there.

It's a big step up from other theaters and stadiums in the county. Besides dance performances, it'll bring many comedians/comedy groups, bands, presentations, and plays. In response to the former DA's Office site being landscaped, that is definitely not a good sign that there will be progress in the near future. City Ordinance requires that when someone secures a demolition permit that they either commence construction immediately or that they take out a bond to pay to landscape the lot. It looks like they do not anticipate construction in the near future.
