Stopped at SHoppers today, and Papa John's is moving in there, next to Subway.

So that leaves the Jean Coutu centre, the Superstore mall or the empty spot near BMO as options for Mary Browns. It'll be interesting to see which one they take.

I remember that I was just a kid lol.. I think it was more than 20 years ago now .. I would say we are number 2, we are ahead of Saint john

Intersting move to have a papa johns on the northside, I love their pizza, Its the best for sure. I just always seem to pick up little ceasars on the way home since its so affordable

Doubtful Loblaw would allow a fried chicken competitor to move into their mall.

I forgot about Brookside; there's a few slots in the minimalls that could take Mary Browns.

I'm not sure I follow the logic here. Greco is in the Superstore Mall and Loblaws sells pizza....

Another possible location would be in West Hills Village. Other restaurants there are Jessy's, Mama's Pub and Pita Pit

I agree i am sure the amount of money they would lose from Greco and Mary Browns would be so low it wouldnt even really matter.

I had heard rumours of this for over a year but it looks like they've finally agreed to a deal (from foxrocks.ca):

It's hoped a new development will help boost tourism on Fredericton's north side. The city and Northampton Brewing -- which makes Picaroons -- have agreed to redevelop the Gibson Roundhouse site on Union Street at the north end of the walking bridge. The spot will be home to the brewery and its head office. In exchange for the property, there's to be a historic interpretation area, a meeting room to host community events, public washrooms and a reconfigured parking lot.

I'm pretty pleased that that building will be back in use and the whole property rejuvenated. This will be very good for the neighbourhood especially (for me) if they sell beer from the brewery. I they ever let them put a patio on the roof there it would be a great place to grab a beer and watch the sunset up the river.

There is a story on it at the CBC website now as well:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunsw.../nb-picaroons-gibson-roundhouse-810.html

I assume they are moving their operations from the Storage World complex in Pepper Creek.

Then why would you want to build a business on an area that floods, who would give someone insurance ? Just had that debate with a friend

They will probably keep potential floods in mind when designing their space.

Some interesting items in this month's PAC agenda:

Cuffman Street Extension - Phase 2 - Residential development on a new street off of Cliffe.

173 Clark Street - 3-story building with counseling services on the main floor and 12 rental units above. This lot currently has a rundown single family home.

Brookside West - 16 more single family lots

Gilridge Drive Extension - 35 residential lots. I mentioned this the other day; this links Gilridge Estates to Regiment Creek. The PDF also has a site plan for future development; looks like over 200 lots in total and it would eventually connect to Claudie Road.

Lian Street - More condos/apartment buildings.

When I first heard the rumours of this plan I asked the same thing and the anwer I got was that the brewer's pitch was that a brewing facility is designed for water to be on the floors. Everything in the brewing area is concrete and steel and controls are high off the ground. A major flood would halt production but would not, if designed properly, cause significant damage to the brewing facilty.

The same can't be said for the office and/or public spaces though. Maybe they have plans to keep them on the second floor?

Interestingly, here is an architect's rendering - http://theacre.ca/theprojects/picaroons-microbrewery/. Flooding concerns aside, this could really do wonders for the neighbourhood.

I dont build my house to have water on the basement floor.. Just doesnt make too much sense, i just dont want to see them complaing in 4-5 years about flood water ruining their business.. Which i dont want that to happen to anyone. Just have to think they know what they are doing

Agreed. The amount of development going on in Devon right now is fantastic and this is a great addition to what's happening in the neighborhood.

Makes me kind of sad that I just sold my house in Devon.

Its beautiful and will only make the area even look better. I still cant undestand how the city could sell a property that is know to flood. The province should be able to step in and not allow this.

It's a Heritage property by the looks of it, so it's a case of "We can't tear it down, but we can't make any money off of it, so let's see what we can do." The CBC article basically said the site's going from no tax income to around 100,000 dollars in tax income now.

As mentioned above, a brewery is practically designed to be flooded regularly; they'll probably keep the spring floods in mind and schedule lighter/no production in March/April so a flood wouldn't slow them down as much if it happens, so it's probably one of the better industries to put there all things considered.
