That has become an active corridor over there.
This is my hood, arjay57 - hope you had a good time!

I love what's going on along Dresden, but have still not seen renderings of the Wood Partners development. Seems like all I do is work...

Collier demo...and construction?

Driving down Collier yesterday (very close to Nuevo Laredo), there is a great deal of demo and site clearing going on... Anyone know what the deal is?

The supports for the ferris wheel are up:

I'm a bit undecided on it... at first it was impressive seeing it, but now I might be feeling a bit underwhelmed. The center of the wheel there looks like it is about 5 stories off the ground ... so the top of the wheel we're looking at maybe 9 stories tall total, cause you have to factor in the platform at the bottom.

I dunno, I guess thats pretty big. Its bigger than the ferris wheel that was at the final4, but its no london eye.

It's a happening part of town, atlantaguy. It's comparable to areas like Virginia-Highland, Candler Park and Decatur in terms of walkability, density, transit access and general "close-iness".

We go to Haven or Valenza about once a month (especially on half price wine nights).

It is this, jnihiser? Or is the site you're looking at further away?

It's not that site (though that project is REALLY coming along...lots of multi-family that I'm not sure everyone is aware of at the moment).

These pictures are closer to Collier and Chattahoochee.

(Try grabbing this address for a peek at the site)....1963 Collier Road Northwest, Atlanta, Georgia, United States

In person, It made me feel like I was in the looming presence of the creepy killer machine from Mars in Speilberg's version of War of the Worlds. Liked the scale of the base.

Why did I have a 20 floor/200' number floating around in my head? It's clearly not going be that high. Maybe some article had that or something... I was wondering how they were going to fit a 200' wheel in that site. It's pretty apparent now that they don't have to. Just one more attraction around the park, I'm all for it.

GDOT just awarded a $176MM contract to CW Matthews to build two limited access, reversible toll lanes in the I-75 median on the southside of town between I-675 and 12 miles south of there. Planned completion is 2016. This should improve southside traffic. This isn't directly related to highrise construction (nor is the ferris wheel really), but traffic improvement, even in the burbs, helps the core substantially.

I'm so excited about this. I had been fearing all along that the building was just going to be torn down -- in the 1920's it was a drug store with offices upstairs but it's been vacant for years. Never thought I'd live to see the day when Marietta Street was almost built out!

Here's a pic from the post

SS traffic is abominable and never gets any attention, I guess until now. I've made the drive between FL and Atlanta maybe 30-40x and probably 90% of the time I got caught in 1-2 hour stop and go leaving and 1-3 hour stop and go starting at mile 206 or 211 returning, no matter the time. It's insane, really.

Yes I agree 100%. I'm surprised this hadn't been address at least 5 to 10 years ago.

I'm not sure what you are basing that on...the materials for Elan is the basic standard that is used all around Atlanta, i.e. Heights Armour apartments. I was somewhat turned off of Elan when I looked at their website and one of the pictures is generic modern living room pic thats been on tons of websites for the past 8 years. The fact that they would use that pic as if that is how one of the units will look is crazy.

Oh, you are going to have to be deprogrammed. It's not a big nothing-burger. It's a "great addition to the area".
