oh yeah right...

cool....anxious to see it.....great to fill that lot and densify Osborne village...I like the design of the previous proposal...hopefully its something as interesting.

great stuff happening in the village these days....im surprised nobody has proposed another tower on Roslyn....the towers all seem to be going near portage avenue....if I was a developer I would look at Osborne for that.

I've been thinking about posting a thread about the village for weeks. I feel like it's still the most important area of Winnipeg, still the most urban area we have. Continued development is necessary to keep the village vibrant. I would LOVE to see several more towers in the area, and some more substantial developments on Osborne Street.

Excellent idea. It is one of Winnipeg's most densely populated urban areas.
As well, the Osborne area is so closely connected to it's neighbor, crescentwood.

These neighborhoods are one of the few where I can actually say the activity flourishes into the wee hours of the morning.

You were right to be anxious. It is a poor rendering but it looks like some bad suburban condo.

edit: maybe not that bad:

The applicant explains that the building has been conceptualized to reflect materials and scale
appropriate to the neighbourhood. The cladding will be face-brick at the first storey with
limestone above. The residual areas around the base of the building will be populated with
limestone-walled planters to further enhance the human scale, provide a buffer and transition to
the grade level units, and provide colour and texture contrast by a combination of evergreen and
deciduous perennial planting.

Here are a few shots I snapped this afternoon of the very, very early stages of the expansion project at the RBC Convention Centre.

First, the general site overview. You can see that they are getting ready to start site prep:

Here's a close up of the Stuart Olson Dominion site office and the only construction equipment on site so far:

For no particular reason, here's a shot looking up Edmonton Street. You can see a crane working on the six-storey Marie Rose Place project (that you can read about here). They are still working hard at driving in the piles for that project.

So, two projects at once is not bad by Edmonton Street standards. Will Lakeview Properties finally get started on the lonnnnnng-rumoured hotel at the corner of St. Mary Avenue and make it a hat trick?

Looks like there has finally been some movement at the Fort Rouge Yards site. There is heavy equipment there starting underground and road work. THere is also a sign for Innocapital on the fence. Here are some details from their site:

Sorry I missed this post ajs. If you meant a vibrant urban area as per: Osborne above(new thread)? I also think It's a great idea for a new topic thread.

The West/East Exchange are very active themselves, are in a huge upswing from past years, and have attracted a multitude of new dev. ,resturants, living space and so on.

More and more, the City of Winnipeg is forced trudge cap-in-hand to the legislature to pay for the most basic infrastructure improvements

I personally like this quote much more, and it's exactly what the City is doing... supplicating to the higher levels of government for a problem they are compounding... I recently wrote a letter to Council about a property in Charleswood that was rejected because the NIMBY people who live around it don't want density (almost in those exact words)... I won't go into details here, because this is the construction thread, but I'll post it in the Expresso thread shortly.
