I think it looks orange in the screenshot that RyeJay posted. Either way, the glass is starting to look really good. We shouldn't be complaining about whatever the colour is until it's completely finished anyway. Even then, we're getting a beautiful and architecturally significant building so there isn't much to be upset about.

It does look very orange on the webcam for some reason.

For people viewing this on a range of devices/screen types, unless your monitor is properly calibrated and balanced, subtle colours can go totally wonky and look wrong particularly if the exposure/quality of the image isn't great.

I find the orange disappointing. When the balconies went on VicSuites, they shone, didn't matter angle, time of day, lighting; they were/are vibrant. The orange on the library just looks dull, I worry that will not improve.

That's true, although the balconies are backlit by sunlight from all angles. Many of the glass panels on the library don't have light coming through them, which might detract from the colour.

I've looked a little bit but I can't find a single picture of any building with the exterior bright/neon orange glass on a building like that presented in the rendering. Does it even exist? I do find the difference between the window and the spandrel glass quite stark, and I'm doubtful of any film on either, but I'll reserve my judgement on the building as a whole until it's complete.

I never said I didn't love the project. I'm simply amazed that the only colour element (one floor of orange) presented in all of the designs, which is even orange in the building's logo, somehow got screwed up and turned into purple.

Obviously it doesn't ruin the entire building but I do think it would have looked more vibrant if it were built the way it was designed and presented. Who knows, maybe when it's all finished I'll prefer the purple look but on first impression it seems a bit drab compared to what could have been.

Okay, I see what you mean for sure. But who knows, maybe when the building and interiors are finished and the lights are on, that will make it look orange? I dunno. I can see a bit of orange in the current colours but it does of course look more purple-ish than orange.

I knew I had a shot tucked away from a while back.. Wishblade and I were out checking stuff out downtown one day, and I admired the orange used on the City Centre Atlantic addition.. personally this is along the lines of the colour I was expecting for the library...

That close-up shot of the CCA addition is interesting. It's nice to see a bunch of more modern-looking buildings going up in the city. The apartments along Clyde Street will have a similar style. The style reminds me a bit of the Cambie Street or Olympic Villages areas in Vancouver.

I also like how imposing the library looks from the webcam angle and from Queen Street. I was worried it would be set back too far. It looks like it will stand out as a landmark public building -- the neighbourhood will be completely transformed in a couple of years.
