I have voiced my complaints as well. The ACLU lawsuit states that when the City supplies 1250 units of housing for the homeless, the previous sidewalk laws can be enforced. They seem to be close to the 1250 number but nobody knows for sure, not even the Councilman's office.

Many of the newer groups of homeless refuse to go to shelters. On the streets they can place tents and use drugs without a problem. The shelters have strict drug enforcement laws. I have sympathy for the mentally ill homeless but not those who have an opportunity to go to a shelter and refuse. The problem is that both meningitis and MRSA are prevalent amongst the homeless which puts the entire population at risk. Continue to put pressure on the politicians to come up with solutions.

Also, the homeless Downtown have the 3 meals a day offered to them at the shelters.

Theres no point talking about the terrible effect the bus stops have on the overall feel of downtown - it can sadly never be fixed. Heres another image taken this evening right after they pulled the paper down on Andrew Meierans long overdue store at the corner of 7th & Spring. Looks extremely cool!!

Aside from the trash on the ground, I'm not seeing a problem here. Maybe it feels more crowded in person?

Century City used to have a problem with trash at bus stops, but trash cans were finally placed at them. And the sidewalk is much cleaner as a result.

On Thursday, June 6, VF Corp., a Fortune 500 fashion company, marked the move of two of its brands into a recently renovated space at the four-building complex at 777 S. Alameda St.

Splendid and Ella Moss will be headquartered in a building adjacent to the one that houses American Apparel. Landlord EVOQ Properties inked the 10-year, 82,000-square-foot deal with VF as it tries to reposition Alameda Square as a mixed-use campus for creative office tenants.

I love the way that any discussion about our obvious big f****** homeless situation immediately becomes an opportunity for others to begin questioning people's levels of compassion

Of course none (few?) of us can relate to their experience and its heartbreaking to watch. Hell, I deal with the homeless every day and its a brutal way to live. That doesn't mean that we just have to accept how badly it negatively impacts society. We can still be compassionate and allocate more mental health resources, clean the streets, provide more housing, etc. "Let's tackle homelessness" doesn't mean that we're humanity-hating assholes.

Don't even get me started on how our mismanagement of homelessness in LA (and America) impacts our health care system. The degree to which homeless patients drain our resources can't be overstated.

i do have sympathy for the homeless, but only the ones that are trying to better themselves, not the crackheads that lay down on the sidewalk and take a shit where ever they feel like. These people should be in mental institutes but thanks to 30 years of politicians taking that option away, we are left with these people living on the streets. The best option for them would be to open up a rehab center in the middle of nowhere so that the homeless and drug addicts dont have access to drugs so easily. right now, they can get drugs where ever they want. not working.

Got a public hearing notice in the mail regarding 840 - 888 s olive street, 839 - 845 s hill street, 321 w 9th street

proposed project: modification of vesting tentative tract blah blah... to permit construction of 303 residential condos in lieu of the previously approved 283 condos and 7 commercial condos on 56,627 net square feet with 358 parking spots + 24 for commercial (less than the 661 required by zoning) project will also provide 35 long term and 35 short term bike parking spaces.

^ That's the current project under construction at 9th and Olive that stretches through to Hill Street. I like that they're building well under the required zoning for parking, and including long and short term bike parking. Very smart.

When did the Onni project switch from apartments to condos? I received the notification as well and figured it was phase II. Everything I have read previously said it was an apartment project.

Onni Group of Vancouver is erecting a 32-story tower on a former parking lot at the northeast corner of Olive and 9th streets.

Onni's building, to be known as 888 Olive, will have 283 units — each with a private balcony — over street-level shops and restaurants. It will have a swimming pool and fitness center, Onni said. Completion is set for early 2015.

The company also plans to develop a second residential tower on Olive Street next door to 888 Olive and a third at 12th and Flower streets just west of Staples Center.

This is just a modification to what's already being built, not a new proposal. The construction site for the current Onni project spans from 840-888 Olive street.

A VP from Onni was quoted in an article a few months back saying that the four other planned residential towers were in the infancy stages, meaning that groundbreaking would likely come after 888 Olive's completion (in late 2015 to early 2016). We probably won't see plans/renderings for a while on those.

A little larger rendering from the web site of The Bloc. I'm not big on the signage up top (it's a bit gaudy IMO), but I like what they're doing with the shopping center. Opening it up will make a huge difference. But cutting out some street level retail spaces along Hope and Flower will make or break this project.
