For the record, this made me laugh out loud. Quite loud in fact. For the record, if you think "hush puppies" are a brand of shoes, you have no business being offended by this thread's title.
I think a few folks here are watching just a few too many Chris Rock videos, and trying just a bit too hard to feel a kinship with our American brethren.
While I'm certainly aware of the racial implications of the term "cracker" - I can say with authority that I've never in my entire life in Canada heard anyone actually use it in this context. Not in a derogatory sense, and not in any other sense either - unless they were having a chuckle about the latest Chris Rock stand-up routine. But no Canadian in my presence has ever actually used "cracker" to refer to white people. It's just simply never been part of our lexicon.
Next up - Canadians on this forum getting offended if I joke around with the word "chav". Followed by "naco". And a dozen other epithets that have never actually been used by any Canadian, and we're only aware of thanks to entertainment media.
Hmm. Remember those old commercials for eggs? "Let's get crackin!" I wonder if those have some secret racial meaning if you pretend you're from Mississippi.
