Despite the further urbanization of Metrotown, I think that retaining the overpass and making it functional would be a good idea. As somebody who lives on the north side of Kingsway, I use both Metrotown overpasses (the SkyTrain one and the one on Kingsway by the BestBuy) and I find them very useful. They speed up your trips, provide some urban variety and also help tremendously in bad weather (you know during those times when city pretends that snow does not exist and you have to walk though 1 foot of snow slosh by the curb). It is not a life or death request mind you - it would be just nice to have especially since it is already there...

Secondly, unless the mall is going to develop the bus loop in parallel with station renovation we may be facing years of waiting and using the existing setup which forces peds to walk down a narrow corridor between parking entrance and (soon to be) abandoned bus loop (on north side of Central Blvd).

So if nothing else they should think about enclosing the entrance to the overpass in the station envelope so that you don't have to get outside to get in - just extend the staircase so that it reaches beyond the gates (as shown on the Translink sketch - mind you we don't know whether those are accurate).

I wonder with the new plans, since they're not planning to change the roof canopy anymore, can they build the new west station house and elevators first, then phase two rebuild the east station house and demolish the old elevator. Keep the station open during construction.

To be honest I can't see why not... The West Station House, afterall, is a complete new structure (and seems to be designed to allow for easy future platform extension). They can also work in the new bus loop to reduce the number of people needing to cross Central Blvd.

Will the new station allow for the future addition of side platforms for all door boarding? Given how busy the station is and how fast the area is growing (plus an eventual B-line down Willingdon to Brentwood) I would think it would be a wise idea to plan for this now.

There is plenty of room around the station, even on the north side since the station is high enough to allow everything to overhang the road way.

*For those that have not used a set up like this how it works is that the right hand doors open first to allow people to exit and the left hand doors open a few seconds later to allow people to enter. Center platform is for boarding and side platforms are for disembarking.

Duh of course there in the middle of the platform. I was referring to the renderings which don't give a clear view of how the 2 elevators will be setup, and how big they will be. That's what interests me, as I use them.

I also use the elevator if I have a stroller. It's terrible.

B-Line from Metrotown Station to Brentwood Station? News to me.

Do you have a source for this (not that I don't believe you)? I would like to read up on it.

That's not the question you asked - you said you couldn't see them - i.e. "where are they?".

You should be more specific with your questions.

Well I should have said major regional bus corridor, if there will be a "B-Line" designated route I don't know.
https://burnaby.civicweb.net/Documents/DocumentDisplay.aspx?Id=9210

Burnaby is building bus lanes (technically HOV lanes for vehicles with 6 or more passengers and buses) from Willingdon up to Beresford st. The stretch from BCIT to Metrotown will be part of a future phase from what I understand and is not included as part of the above document. What translink runs down it I don't know but it will be a major bus corridor connecting two major and growing town centers and in the middle a growing regional office hub, a regional hospital that will likely be redeveloped and expanded in the coming decades and in the future a redeveloped and densified BCIT campus (because eventually they will cash in and better utilize their huge swath of land).

So I am assuming this will become a major and busy bus corridor in the future increasing boardings for both Metrotown and Brentwood stations. Pretty sure Metrotown will get much busier in the future due to its location.

Transnlink has issued an RFP for New Westminster Station Upgrade – Design Services. Anyone know if Translink is footing the bill for this, or if the costs are being taken care of by the abutting development?

Quote:
The successful proponent shall perform engineering analysis and prepare detailed design (including architectural, electrical, mechanical, civil and structural work, as required) for the following modifications and/or improvements (collectively referred to as the “Work”)

i. South Elevator upgrade
ii. Escalators- Replace or Refurbish all 4 escalators
iii. Platform and concourse ceilings
iv. Platform and concourse flooring
v. Stair upgrades, including north end exit stair
vi. Guard rails and handrails upgrades , structural analysis and modifications of existing structural elements such as hoop trusses for installation of glass panels.
vii. Associated mechanical and electrical works including lighting, CCTV cameras, speakers etc.
viii. North stair enclosure upgrade
ix. Platform canopy fascia replacement
x. Platform enclosure at old entry

TransLink is footing the entire cost of this project, which is budgeted to be $9M.

Yeah, that's a pet peeve of mine: Why this couldn't have been done (cheaper) in conjunction with Plaza 88 construction, and why the developer wasn't paying for it...

The same way I feel all major developments along the Canada Line (such as the Oakridge development) should also include having the extra 10 meters station expansions completed. Sam with Marine Gateway and several Richmond projects.

Sorry Metro, not sure if I got it. Are you saying some stations should get that extra 10 meter platform, while construction activity permits it, and others not; at least for the moment, but presumably later? (To accomodate 3-car CLine trains of course.)
I'd love to see 3-car Canada Line trains, whenever that might be.

He's saying all the major redevelopments along the Canada Line should include a station expansion in their plans. Fr example the Marine Gateway development should include a station expansion along with the huge development they're building.

On page 12 - first time I've seen a render of the 3rd platform at Broadway Station.
Looks like there's a whole new bridge across the Cut to Commercial Station.

The movement that is being expanded/accommodated is M-Line inbound (centre platform at Commercial Station)
transferring to Expo Line inbound (new east platform at Broadway Station).
