I have no doubt he would.. if he admits that the surplus has been lower and lower under his watch. All under the guise of "saving the taxpayer money by not drawing more than is needed".

Too bad there are too many citizens that would fall for this stuff instead of knowing that the surplus is still required for proper city building.

That said, I really would like to know what a breakdown of that surplus change is - how much is the reduction due to slower home sales, how much is a direct result of actually cost cutting by Ford, how much is a result of scrapping the vehicle registration tax...

Conspiracy theory time:

News of the video comes out. Ford refuses to comment, for what? A week? Finally he says "there is no video". After many days of not commenting. Later on, the video seems to have mysteriously disappeared.

How convenient. You'd think that if there WERE no video, he would have said that right away. Instead of waiting for a time, perhaps enough time to "deal with it".

Just imagine the scandal if he in fact was involved in the video going missing.

Quote:
“Hypothetically,” Price asked Towhey, if someone had told him where the video was, “What would we do?”

The straitlaced former military man told Price that nobody should do anything other than contact police.

At one point, according to an account of the conversation, Towhey was heard to remark, “We’re not getting the f---ing thing!”

His concern was that, if a video existed, someone could be killed for it.

Actually I do. What I see from the outside looking in is a old fashioned witch hunt. What I see is a man who has made mistakes (who hasn't) but who is overall doing a decent job for his community (especially his work with innercity kids). Sure he has his faults but there aren't many politicians who do not. Its obvious to a lot of us who aren't from Toronto that the Toronto Star has a distinct motive in regards to Rob Ford, that when the media has to start creating the news instead of reporting it, then this type of thing happens, people believing a tape exists with zero substantial evidence to prove it. Where is the tape?

Having said that, from the outside looking in the charade in Toronto is changing from Ford to the actual people who are trying to do whatever they can to manufacture a story. Should we make some fat jokes? Should we resort to calling him a "cracker" like the title of this thread? Can you imagine if someone used a title with that tone if Ford was a different race?

That said, what I do see is a good sized municipal surplus in a province who's economy is struggling. Sure it may be decreasing but overall its still positive, just as the deputy mayor suggests. Can you imagine what would happen if Ford was ever found naked in a Chinatown bawdy house? Yup, the hypocracy is delicious.

Yup, and George W Bush brought down the World Trade Centre.

Its funny that many of Fords biggest oppenents think he's a complete idiot who can't walk and chew gum at the same time yet claim he is smart enough to cover up a tape which was already in the wrong hands. Ford must've got ahold of all the copies too.

Obviously The Star couldn't come up with the $200K, times are tough lol.

Ya he does amazing work for his group of what? 40 kids, and claims it has a 99% success rate and then refuses to fund similar programs because apparently he's the only one who can perform such a feat.

At this point I don't think we're ever going to see the video even if it does or did at some point exist. I don't really buy into conspiracy theories either. Where would Ford have the connections to "deal" with someone? Does he order the Toronto Police to arrange an accident? Does he call up the local assassin hotline? If anything I think it's far more likely he would have contacted the owners quietly and settled on a payment.

40 kids is 40 kids. And last time I checked it wasn't up to the mayor how the city funds programs, its up to city council.

So Ford is the only one who could contact the owners even after the so-called story broke? I guess times really are that tough in the print media.

Ok, so why doesn't he resign and dedicate his full attention to this?! He's not doing his job as the ELECTED MAYOR OF TORONTO - period.

So this just falls back to what I'm saying, you don't know what you're talking about - you don't understand municipal governance, you don't understand how municipal governments operate, you don't understand why there is a City of Toronto Act, you don't understand the powers or lack of powers that mayor's possess, you don't understand the roles and responsibilities of elected council members and the mayor AND, you certainly do not know Rob Ford's record of stupidity.

It's one thing to make a couple of mistakes in life, but to continually make mistakes without learning? - Especially if you know you're in the public spotlight as an elected official?! That's completely something else.

Quite frankly, I don't give a — about what he does during his off-time, I'm just fed up with his complete under-performance of his actual duties he was elected to do. The man is a slacker. Always scrapping by without adding anything intelligent or useful to issues at hand. He'll just pop up to make an appearance, say a few scripted words for popularity ratings then disappear like a fart in the wind - exactly what he got caught doing with the Humbertown redevelopment meeting.
  • Transit Plans? Subways, subways, subways! Funding? oh, um... private-public partnerships! Who in the private sector? Lots of people! Who? Umm... people!
  • Transit funding for Metrolinx? Oh, it's time to bury my head in the sand, I don't want to look bad or make any hard decisions!
  • Mayor's Conference? Nope! Don't wanna meet other mayors to discuss common issues our cities face - cuz I don't know them and I don't want to know them!
  • Use of publicly funded resources for his football coaching hobby? (or as you put it: "work with innercity kids") - Definitely! Is this volunteer-based task suppose to be paid for by the taxpayer? - Nope!
  • Do your hobby football coaching during work time (council meetings etc..)? - You bet!
  • Public drunkenness? - Hells yeah! Public drunkenness at large events where he is there representing the Mayor of Toronto? - Damn straight!
  • Cut revenue streams for the City that work towards paying for infrastructure repairs, upgrades, transit improvements? - Yes Please! Because it makes me look like a freaking hero to the hard-working taxpayers!

oh no, I think that's pretty obvious to everyone.

Like I said before, this guy has manufactured his own battle with the media. So if the media wants to take a giant — on his fat head, by all means!

I'm not going to argue with you about your municipal issues, just giving my opinions on what it looks like from the outside looking in. Best of luck!

Thanks for admitting you don't know what you're talking about and are instead just simply throwing in arguments irrelevant to what makes Ford a good mayor or as you put it doing "a decent job for his community".

BTW, Ford's "community" by virtue of his job title is now suppose to the entire City of Toronto, not the Don Bosco High School Football Team.

Im not admitting anything, just giving my opinions, many of which are shared by people outside of Toronto. Here's hoping for a Rob Ford re-election next year, I enjoy watching the media and their sheep implode.

Cheers!

I wouldn't say the province's economy as a whole is struggling at this point. The Government of Ontario has definitely had issues due to high spending and low revenues due to lower tax rates from corporations but private companies/corporations in general have been doing extremely well. I'd say Ontario is getting ripped off by the federal government which makes our deficits higher. But we have the most complex and diverse economy of any province in Canada. Right now where I live there is an economic boom due to the gold mines.

Back to Rob Ford:

He is such a bad mayor for Toronto and his attitude is unbelievable. But I must agree that there has been lots of comedy with him in his position.

Given the fact that Ford has to deal with the Star tabloid reporters hanging out in the trees, yes I'd say he is doing a good job. Someone brought up earlier that drinking alcohol was an issue with Ford, well I guess if your name is Obama, Justin Trudeau, or Bill Clinton, taking illegal drugs is "cool" but whatever you do, don't drink booze. Who's the one coming out of this whole 'non-story' with a tarnished reputation? The Toronto Star! "But Teacher, the dog ate my video!"

So because he is the mayor of Toronto excludes him from coaching high school football? —? Sorry but I think the Argos already have a head coach. Unreal that some would try and diminish a man who coaches inner city kids sports. Fascinating what people will say when they have an obvious agenda.

Also what is interesting is that 21 pages into this thread, I am the first person who is offended by this threads title. Can you imagine if that same tone was used on a muslim or black man? Wow

and now race is pulled in to it, when it had nothing to do with it.... I am sensing some professional level trolling here.

and to reiterate about the surpluses:
THEY WERE HIGHER BEFORE FORD CAME TO OFFICE. THEY HAVE BEEN GETTING SMALLER EVERY YEAR SINCE.

Oh, I didn't realize that Obama, Trudeau and Clinton were alleged to have done hard drugs in the presence of drug dealers and gang members, all while in office. I also didn't realize that those three leaders were known for their hard-line, conservative policy stances on drug possession and drug use. I guess everyone's equal then.

Yes, and where did those allegations come from? The Canadian version of the National Equirer. Zero evidence yet many ate it up like a well done steak.

Dog must've eaten the video hey.

This is an absurd and willfully ignorant statement. If this is what you truly believe, there's no point in bothering to argue with you, so whatever.
