I don't see how anyone would disagree suburban towers shouldn't strive to be Metrotower 3. However, it simply doesn't make practical sense having one of the worst floor plates to cram in as many saps as possible. You're seeing cube farms ripped out for 2 by 4 foot desk lined in rows of ten. Replace the PC with a sewing machine and you'd have a bonafide sweat shop.

Can you tell me what exactly is "engaging" in that SSQ rendering? Everything about this tower is horrible.

Yeah overall it's pretty awful. But I like the window pattern.

For starters, a facade that isn't a blank canvas of glass is more engaging right off the bat. SSQ looks to have colour, weight, and perhaps even texture; once again more engaging than the transparent sterility of glass. Add a pattern that depicts a gradual enlargement of the windows and the visual interest increases again.

To top it off, we're treated with an interesting roof element rather than the linear after thought we're usually presented with. If you don't like the design that's one thing, but it's more engaging visually by a country mile over the usual office block. I'm not sure how one could argue otherwise.

You have to understand one thing, what are important is cost + safety. The closer you are to the centre of the city, the better the investment on aesthetics but in Longueil, it does not make too much sense to focus on aesthetics.

That being said, it is evident that the client is trying to be architecturally engaging – the roof for example has an interesting treatment.

Though I agree with you, I find this building to be hideous.

7th Ave Autopark in Calgary from the Calgary thread. This is an automated parkade that is being proposed to help pay for the renovation of a small strip of century old buildings that have become very unsightly and run down. Personally I think it looks pretty bad.

and with office floor added on later:

Very weird. But very needed also. That stretch of buildings is in horrific condition. I get on the Ctrain at Centre Street Station every day, right across from those buildings, and yeah... they're doing really bad.

Exactly. Its already a candidate for the other thread. But I kind of like it, in a "Mad Men" kind of way. It looks like a luxurious hotel for cars.

It looks to be directly inspired by this parkade in Miami Beach (in a very prominent location off the Lincoln Avenue Pedestrian Mall). It's actually quite striking in person if you're into this kind of architecture.
