Does anyone know who I can address complaints about the horrid spandrel on The Mark?

It really looks like crap and nothing like Onni's renders which obviously sailed through the UDP and hence were approved. Onni should be forced to remedy the uneven glazing,it's so bad you can see it from Oak and King Edward. I honestly think it's the worst high rise glazing we've ever witnessed in Vancouver.

Thanks for any help.

I'm going to write Onni a letter (won't do much good) and also write a letter to City Hall.

It's not sold out, there's an on-site presentation centre and the developer has numerous suites listed on MLS right now. Clearly there's still some inventory if you're interested.

Re: The Mark Glazing

Heard back from Lorna Harvey in the UDP who responded promptly and forwarded my concerns about the glazing to David Autiero, Project Facilitator, the best contact for concerns is Anita Molaro but she's away on holidays until May 16th.

Will keep you posted as to their actions and / or responses but the seed is planted.

If you wish to voice your concerns to Lorna or David , her email is [email protected]
David Autiero's is [email protected]

The orange cladding was originally pitched as wood slats. This just looks cheap and dreadful. Although I love the height the addition of 1300 and 1396 Richards will create a boring new tabletop for the area.

Agreed. Could they have made it any uglier? The only thing it 'marks' is the intersection of Pacific & Seymour.

Fortunately nobody will pay attention to it once the two taller gateway towers are built in next 5 years.

It doesn't look too bad in that last picture, if only because the spandrel is symmetrical. The other sides look absolutely atrocious. I hope the tower catches on fire before anyone can move and burns down.

One thing I find interesting is that the triangular balconies have been built/engineered without the need for the diagonal tension cables seen on the Georgia Tower (even though they seem of similar size (at least the smaller Georgia ones). The concrete elements that looks like a baseboard (west side) and partial wall (east side) must provide some stiffenning and support - but the balconies near the top do not appear to have one of those structural elements (west side).

Besides the spandrel and fake wood, I kinda like it? Seems like a not-so-poor man's Shangri-La.

That's indeed a better solution, as I dislike the cables on The Georgia. For a long time I was thinking they are there just during the construction phase, but no.

The spandrel atrocity of the upper floors sticks out even from across False Creek on 4th/6th avenue (will try to get a pic when the whether is good). What makes this whole project more tragic is that The 501, built next door by the same developer 14 years ago, is more attractive in every respect.

The shape isn't ugly and it had so much potential. I really liked the renders, but the final product is a disgrace.

The ugly of this building is absolute. We can all agree on that.
My question is how did this happen? The UDP approved this mess, and the developers seemed to have made it look a lot worse than the renderings had shown. Anyone know what the word is at City Hall? Surely, people working with the city and the UDP see this thing everyday, and feel somewhat responsible.
