Some liberties? The original image has been repeatedly raped.
We don't live in a alternate universe or dreamlike state (unless wormholes or powerful drugs are involved).

That image is more of a rendering than an actual photograph.
Yes, it may have a place in this world, but that was back in 2008 (along with truck nuts, Ed Hardy and other bad things). Please let extremely eye burning HDR die.

These are great comparisons, and show how much Canada has grown over the past few decades, but the king of these is this one from Shanghai.

Top is 1990, bottom is 2010.

1990 ? ... wow ... I was about to say something like 1950.
Just incredible.

Btw, I come back from cinema, and Shanghai still makes me think of the cities of the future you see in Star trek

Shanghai : 200 years forward.

Yeah, but that is comparing a country that has been fully industrialized for over a century, to a country that is not even fully industrialized yet. Much larger changes take place during the industrialization period.

Also comparing a city that is 25 million people, to cities that are 1.4 - 6 million.

Shanghai certainly looks incredible though! I just really realllly enjoy breathable air.

I have 1 - 3 smokes per day. I prefer that to basically breathing cigarette-quality air on a 24/7 basis

With B&W photography, some liberties have been taken. Maybe the photographer is trying to convey a dream like state as people can dream in black and white. How is it different if someone presents a photo in B&W vs HDR.

Love the "Then & Now" comparisons, keep them coming.
Didn't there used to be a thread in the Canada section dedicated to this?

there are other cities in china that have done even better than this. one of them was a fishing village of only around 5000 ppl in the early 80's. today it it a giant metropolis of over 10 million, massive supertalls and all. can anyone tell me which city this is?

There are very few truly bad air days in Shanghai. I ride my bike nearly 50km a day to commute to and from work, and the air rarely bothers me. For a city of 25 million it's not horribly bad.

That would be Shenzhen, in the Pearl River Delta near Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

I also think HDR looks terrible. B/W shots can be artistic, but HDR just looks wrong.

Lol! I saw a pair of truck balls today and wondered what's to stop people from actually turning their trucks into giant phalluses on wheels. I mean wouldn't that be the next logical step?

Wow, CMHR looks awesome! Almost like a scarab shell. Would be nice to see it in person. Is it open yet?

No, not until next year at least. I posted interior pics in the construction sites thread.
