The developers are very committed and very excited about building this tower in winnipeg. They said so far they can't believe the support from everyone involved here in town. I believe this will happen next year.

It's a start, but when things get officially official, I'll be skeptical until a brand new tallest get's built, with pilings and everything going into the ground.

It will be pushing 25 years when it actually starts, since TD Centre/Canwest Place/201 Portage was built.

Might want to be careful how much faith you put into one Jawad Rathore.

Winnipeg should just build like, a Tyrell Corporation-style Pyramid (Blade Runner) in Downtown. And fill it with absolutely nothing but apartments.

I can probably dig up dirt on just about any developer out there. All I know is they have been involved in approximately 20 high rise developments in the Toronto area and they want to build one here. The construction industry is notoriously crooked. You are commenting on the wrong industry to try and find any moral heros.

Also as discussed previously, the owner of the site on Graham Ave isn't the cleanest either.

CBC is reporting that Fortress doesn't yet own the land.

Maybe i'm dumb to the ways of the world, but don't you usually try and have these things locked up before having a press conference?

I wonder if the price of the lot was at all affected by today's announcement?

I hope this happens, but so far we just have vague promises of greatness to go on. First it was 36 stories, now 42...then 42 stories with the promise of a second tower..Why stop there? Let's shoot for a Dubaisque 87 stories..

Then add to it the slightly bruised reputation of the developer (Capital Pointe).

It's all a fantasy until shovels hit the ground.

To that end, it'll be interesting to see how the condos sell. Free press article http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakin...-developers-208545681.html?device=mobile

This is the first opportunity in Winnipeg to build a custom penthouse suite to any size in a tower. A three storey suite at level 40, for example, could happen if someone wanted to.

By comparison..

When 201 Portage was announced to the public they already had several major tenants, model, and renderings.

So what exactly are you trying to convey to the forum posters? Just Curious?

I'm just wondering where's the beef?

In my mind what is happening is really no different than had we had an SSP meet at the site, promised everyone a free hotdog for attending, and then pledged to build the Emerald City.

I use the grainy old footage of the td tower to draw comparison to what I consider a far more credible way to present such a project to the public.

It's pretty common to option the land, or conditionally purchase the land to get your approvals, etc. in place before actually buying it. Testing the waters out could be part of their due diligence...

The ignorance of some people is astounding. There was one individual on the FP forum who was literally concerned if a Windy city like Winnipeg could handle the construction of a 42 storey tower. After all look at the trouble they had with the stadium. Where is that eye roll emoticon?

Agreed, it's how serious developers manage projects.

soo disappointing i like their enthusiasm and everything

butttt no rendering, no tennants dont even own the land.. no display suites.. nothing but an idea. and hype... i really doubt this project will go forward i just dont see enough interest to make it the cities tallest bldg.. Maybe they know something we dont.. is office space that high in demand, residential, retail.. i mean if it does work it will be incredible for the city...

i guess its all just wait and see...

the convention center, alt hotel, herritedge landing, and d condos possibly the westin hotel will be made before this one gets started.
