Keep us updated on twitter? I can't find any live coverage anywhere, (I am in school or I would be there) and no one is tweeting since the start of the P.C.

Looks like Sammy and Greg in the front row! Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't be surprised. They did everything to bring Fortress here after all (tongue in cheek much)!

So no renderings, no timeline (according to FP twitter feed), no nothing. So much for that.

Sort of makes you wonder why the FP bothered giving this "announcement" front-page coverage in the first place. Who knows, maybe Fortress will one day break ground on a new skyscraper. But the plans appear so vague at this point that they're pretty much worthless. It boils down to saying that maybe someday they will consider building a tower if all the right conditions line up. I suspect that every other developer in Canada would say the same thing.

I too am upset no rendering but at the same time, must remain positive that investors from the 'big smoke' that have 'big $' are looking at Winnipeg. Things take time and until one of us have a net worth of 500 million, I don't think we should critisize these guys too much.

A 1 million $ sales/marketing structure on the proposed developement location is rather positive to me? - I understand there may be no renderings at this time, but this office will apparently have models of the proposed developement? It's feeling a little like the comment sections in online publications the last few pages, negative? Is this the positive forum I joined a while back?

Metro Winnipeg report @tsgibson writes: CEO of Fortress says new multi use downtown #Winnipeg development should cost b/w $150-200 million. Work should start by late next year.

An architect has not been chosen at this time, according to a Fortress rep I chatter with on twitter. I suggested an architectural competition to stir up interest. Mady doesn't inspire confidence.

Fortress has helped finance some great projects: King Charlotte, the Brant Park in Toronto but also some ugly ones.

My only concern is timing--is Winnipeg oversaturated with proposals just when the market is cooling?

Since Winnipeg is under-built and its construction fans are so desperate, Fortress found fertile grounds on which to launch this stunt. Look at the TV, print, radio, and online exposure during the past months. Mission accomplished.

Thirty-six story tower? Forty? When it's built, let us know.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Just the disappointment that we don't get any renderings, timelines, etc. We already knew all of the stuff they "announced" today. I guess the location has been made confirmed. Either way, let's hope it moves forward!

"We" knew, but the general public didn't. People who frequent this board should always be thoroughly "dissapointed" with every official announcement ever made, as we hear it here months earlier.

There's lots of awesome actual construction going on, plus lots of potential sites. My walk this lunch hour went by the Fortress announcement, 300 Assiniboine, the closed down parking lot across from 300 Assiniboine, D Condo, the fenced off spot on Edmonton that trueviking talked about the other day, and CentrePoint - for instance.

Hey B, I feel a little let down without an actual photo as well, and some of the proposal is known already, although I learned "much more", in my mind as to what they want to accomplish. If tweets are correct Talon is a major player? Does fortress have to have 40-50% pre-sales to launch? No different from D-Condos, thier GO now? Glasshouse pre-sales? Thier doing quite well as reported by people on this very site? Patience is needed?

I'm still positive and hoping it will succeed as well!!

That's exactly it. There is enough actual construction and development activity going on that I wouldn't waste another moment speculating about whether Fortress will act on their vague plans.

Great for Winnipeg if they actually do build, but the next Fortress press conference that I'd care to hear about is their topping-off ceremony.
