any updates on the hotel at portage & main

alt hotel is making a lot of progress it seems...

but wow cant wait to see how our downtown will look once all these projects are completed.

CHRM actually looks really really impressive from its front view... if the main part of the museum was facing portage and main i think people would have found it way more aesthetically pleasing. From the back or side view the chrm looks kinda watever.. but from the front its an absolute thing of beauty.. top 10 unique bldgs in north america.. i just saw it today in person.. again from the back it doesnt really impress me.. but from the frt when ur by the inn at the forks it looks amazing.

I had dozens of letters to the editor published in the Press back in the days when I cared. Every single one was confirmed with a telephone call.

my guess is we will see a; this is who we are, this is what we've done elsewhere, this is our idea here...winnipeg is great, go jets go....i doubt there will be anything specific about the development itself.

it will be interesting to see....maybe i'm wrong.

But didn't you let on to have seen a rendering? Why would Fortress keep that a secret from its hyped public event tomorrow?

But if that's the case, it'll show what Fortress really is. A pretender engaging in big talk. To which my response will be, "build it, then brag about it."

I've also had letters published over the years, and I can only remember 1 phone call to verify.

BTW searched Canada411 for Gropius. No listings anywhere in Canada.

Perhaps the Free Press editors are in on the joke?

this is a lot of HYPE

they must be really going big time with this project... like im thinking 200 million plus project that will have multiple phases in development.. i think it might start as one tower but expand to two or three depending on interest. Im also thinking each tower will be between the 90 to 150 meter range.

judging from the website they are trying to gather more information regarding peoples interest and dont really have a set desighn in place yet.. which is extremely disappointing.

Not sure if its been mentioned or not but don't get too excited about something from Fortress. They are a big part of the many years delayed Capital Pointe project here in Regina. Hope they can eventually deliver on both projects.

i heard fortress wasn't really the ones to blame for that fiasco, regardless i really like their ambition here. thier really trying to do something big and generate some excitement into our core,, for which all i can do is commend them. IF thier project is a success its forever going to reshape our skyline and downtown..

Now Westgate is joining forces with the Brightstar Corporation in a joint venture arrangement that is designed to get the project construction underway as soon as possible.

Brightstar is bringing their financial partners, Fortress Real Capital, on board to help finance the project. And Brightstar, the new joint venture partner, has also announced that PCL Construction has been retained to build the $100 million project.

fortress realty has absolutely nothing to do with this project other than a financial backer.

blame brightstar and westgate

loll

As the eyes of the experience, Migs and Vike are probably not too far off the mark.

I hope the Fortress development turns out to be everything it promises and then some, but until shovels are in the ground it just isn't real.

I mean this thing hasn't even gone to pre-sales yet, nor do we have any other idea how the rest of the project will be financed, and already everyone is speculating on how the city's skyline will be forever changed.

I think a dip into the Regina thread for some perspective probably isn't a bad idea.

What's real right now:
-Heritage Landing
-D condos
-Centrepoint
-Glasshouse

What could be:
-Main street Westin

Fantasy / conjecture
-Everything else

Yeah for some reason, the whole marketing build-up for this thing brings to mind the Simpsons monorail/Music Man episode, with Springfield's giant magnifying glass, popsicle stick tower and escalator to nowhere. Hopefully it all works out and is a nice design.

Capital Pointe is a bad example. They've developed many projects in the GTA and elsewhere. Here's hoping.

Only a couple hours now!

Edit: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/vertical-village-to-be-a-big-one-208450781.html

Free press article. Quote:
They're hoping it will include the tallest building between Toronto and Calgary, with a multi-level, underground parkade and potentially up to 75,000 square feet of retail space on the bottom two floors, 40,000 square feet to 100,000 square feet of office space above that and up to 450 condos on the remaining floors.

That sounds pretty big. dCondo and Glasshouse are 450 units together!

Lilwayne is going to have an 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 (if he's capable) and explode all over the internets with his crazy repetitive list of what's going to be constructed in Winnipeg.
