Fingers crossed for something dynamic yet able to compliment St. Vibianas...The fact that the developer is considering condos instead of residential shows that the Downtown market is fully resurging again as more momentum continues to build!!

Here's a different angle of the Vibiana design from years back.

Regardless of the architecture, it's very nice to hear that developers are actually starting to put some non-rental projects into motion. Makes me optimistic for more than just a parking structure at 9th and Hope.

Now for some high rise projects that are more than mere hypotheticals.

888 Olive already has rebar protruding above ground level.

Courtyard Marriott/Residence Inn is now starting on it's 19th floor above ground. Cladding has reached the 9th floor, and it looks like the materials are in place to bring it up to the 14th floor.

It's also nice being able to see the progress on the way to work every morning from Pico Station.

That would definitely qualify as something that we'd take.

This is a different project, and was supposed to go up in Koreatown on Wilshire.

http://thesource.metro.net/2013/05/16/ne...ommunity-funding-however-will-be-needed/

New concept developed to better connect the Regional Connector to Grand Avenue; community funding, however, will be needed

by Steve Hymon

Quote:
One of the three new stations for the Regional Connector project will be at 2nd and Hope Street. Due to the topography of downtown Los Angeles, that presents some challenges for future patrons: those exiting the station bound for Grand Avenue would have to walk uphill to reach the many attractions along Grand Avenue, including the front side of Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, MOCA, the Colburn School and the Broad, the new art museum that is presently under construction.

At the request of members of the Regional Connector Community Leadership Council’s 2nd/Hope Committee – a group of area residents and stakeholders interested in the Regional Connector project — Metro has developed a concept that would provide a direct connection from the new station to Grand Avenue....

Under the proposed concept that Metro has developed, a second level could be added to the station as well as a bridge over Hope Street, subject to community funding. In this concept, the elevators would stop both at ground level and at bridge level, 23 feet above Hope, at the same level as the proposed GTK Way Plaza deck.

Love this idea, and I hope funding can be identified for it. If I recall correctly, LACMA has said they're willing to foot the bill for an additional subway portal at the Fairfax station tunnel to allow passengers to exit closer to the museum. Perhaps Mr. Broad would be willing to do the same here?

It doesn't matter what they decide to do as long as it somehow connects directly to Grand. It would be pretty idiotic to build a station anywhere in the vicinity of Bunker Hill and NOT have it interact with the MOCA, Colburn, Omni, Broad, etc. If the station only ends up serving the lower deck of Grand, it'd be a tremendous waste.

You know, I did make this giant update, but google chrome crashed on me and decided to not save any of the information I entered. Fml. Heres your update everyone..

Downtown LA Update 5-17-13

Welcome everyone, welcome! I've returned from my venture through the city of angels and I can say the city was immensely vibrant this Friday night. My guest noticed that the 7th street metro station was overflowing with people. He was shocked at how many people actually rode pubic transit in our city. Heh. That's LA. Here's your update everyone, sit by, and enjoy the ongoing progress of the city of angels.

Wilshire Grand Demolition

It's simply just a stump in the middle of a forest. It'll soon be a forgotten memory replaced with a massive tower. I'm anticipating the day the steel rises. We should see the tower making progress by years end.

8th and Hope

For the first time, I was kicked out of the Macy's parking structure. Apparently I need a permit to be taking photos at the top of the structure. I tried to explain this was for a newspaper(lol), but he didn't bite and demanded permits and papers. I love SSP, but I'm not going to go through all the trouble. I did manage to grab one shot before he whistled at me to back off. I took a risk guys XD

8th and Grand

Not much progress. Hoping to see the cranes rising soon enough. I want that sea of cranes!

9th and Olive

Slowly, the steel rises!

Courtyard Marriott

My favorite project continues to rise. It's made a ton of progress since I've last seen it. Can't wait for the sister to rise next to her

The Broad & Parcel Tower

While I was on grand, I've noticed there was a bit of a "Dead" zone between Subway and the Disney Concert Hall. I'm sure that will change once the Museum and the Parcel tower is completed. Not to mention the Subway station stop.

Jia Apartment Tower

It's coming together!!

Misc

Anyone have a clue what they are doing here?

There you go guys! Hope you enjoyed the update

Great work Mojeda101.

The Courtyard Marriot seems to be really going at a fast pace.

Looks to me as though there are 6 floors to go. They pour cement every Tuesday so by my calculations the beginning of July should see the final floor built.

Thanks for the updates of all projects, really enjoy your posts.

First off, thanks to Mojeda for a very comprehensive update.

The Downtown News released another Development Update in yesterday's issue. Apparently, the double Marriott will be topping in late June, so was your estimate about right.

Some other tidbits:

Barry Shy's 40 story building at 6th/Main is still working on it's geological report for the city. He's hired an architect to draw up a design, so we should be treated to renderings soon. Still shooting for a 2013 groundbreaking.

Sares-Regis Little Tokyo and 2nd and San Pedro is expected to break ground in June.

Here's something very interesting that I almost missed: Joseph Hellen/Downtown Management are re-considering their plans for the Spring Street Garage (in between the Alexandria and the Spring Street Arcade). Instead of a 12 story parking structure/apartments to match the street wall of the existing buildings, they're considering a 20+ story building.

This is probably the first time I can recall hearing about a developer wanting to increase the scale of a project in downtown, rather than downscaling.
