Yes it is: one of the best cities in the country. My 2nd choice in Ontario by a country mile. Missy, where's your football team? Your university? Your pre-war residential neighbourhoods? Your history? Your downtown?

Now now... Mississauga does have some pretty great prewar ubran neighborhoods closer to/on the lake. It's not ALL bad. But yeah, Hamilton is obviously the actual city with actual character.

^^ It does, but Hamilton's are far more substantial, established, and elegant. In 1930 Hamilton was a real city while Mississauga was a speck on the side of the lake. Honestly, it gets a little tiring/irritating hearing people rip up Hamilton.... especially when it's coming from some upstart suburb.

Thanks for those. We don't see the 'back end' of Montreal very often. Is that Westmount Square in the 1st photo? I especially like the shots of Universite de Montreal. The last photo makes me want to take in a Carabins game. Just like Molson Stadium, it's a great setting for a stadium.

I know that Lambert recommended Van der Rohe as the architect for the Toronto Dominion Centre and I also know that she moved in a penthouse in the Westmount Square when it opened in 1964 (she now lives in a 18th century house in Old Montreal).

I'm finishing up reading her book on the Seagram building and it's captivating.

Van der Rohe was very active in Montreal in the 60's. His firm designed some appartement buildings on Nun's Island (the location of Cronenberg's Shivers), plus an Esso gaz station that was preserved miraculously.

Canada is lucky to have Lambert. If it wasn't for her, Montreal would have lost so many great buildings. We'd also be without Mies in Toronto and Montreal.

I didn't mean to sound like bashing hamilton over mississauga, its a great historical city, and your absolutely right about all that stuff, except for one thing you left out. A future, which mississauga seems to have and hamilton doesn't

I said the hammer because everytime me and my friends go to the bars theirs always a fight happening

Football is not the only factor when considering the importance of a city lol, they just launched a NBL basketball franchise. Mississauga also has some beautiful older quaint 19th century neighbourhoods like Streetsville, Meadowvale, etc. It's home to UofT Erindale, larger than most universities in Canada, not to mention the ever expanding Sheridan College. Mississauga is a booming fast growing city with a great demographic mix, I'm a Toronto boy but I love going up there. Have you seen their downtown development plans? It's already substantial in size but will double in density in the next few years, condos, retail and townhomes galore. Not to take anything away from Hamilton as I love it too, but I think you're being way too critical of Mississauga.

Ah le Chateau Maplewood...she's a beauty, and in an excellent location. Last I heard the plans to turn it into condos got aborted. I think it could serve even better as part of the UdM campus and it would certainly be a great addition to what is already a wonderful campus, as we can see in the other aerial pics.

I've been to Missy lots of times. It has loads of potential, but prefer established cities with lots of history, layering, etc. And quality over quantity: U of T Erindale may be large, but it's no Acadia or Queen's. Btw, maybe you should get a football team.

^ Not to be devil's advocate here, but the Hammer is the only stand alone city in the GTA save for maybe Oshawa.It has it's own vibe an feel.Mississauga just feels like a suburb of Toronto...It must be getting harder and harder for Hamilton to maintain it's identity though, as Toronto keeps extending it's reach outward.

Oh, and about the Mississauga being taller and denser than most american cities like that one dude said... even Kansas City is taller and wayyyy more dense... so yeah. I'm pretty sure Mississauga isn't taller or more dense than even half of American cities.
