True, but they didn't use the money they had to good effect. They also wasted a couple years bickering to the point that they've run out of time and are now in panic mode. Design revisions aren't possible, they just need to get this built.

The whole thing has been an exercise in what not to do.

You don't hear much bitching from people here about the Ottawa stadium, aside from the veil it's not much different than Hamilton. But for some unknown and yet undetailed reason Hamilton has a vehement hate contingent. I'd don't even recall this much poison being directed for BMO and there were some haters there also but nothing like this.

I'd like to see the reaction if the non-winning designs are ever released

If they're even worse, that doesn't mean this is satisfactory. All it means is that they were all sub par.

Yikes. There is something else at play here which is what I'm trying to get at. The comparison to the high school stadium is patently ridiculous but it keeps being made. The previous site renders keep being brought up and they weren't under serious consideration.

Is it just that the timing was bad and people can't accept that this project had a much smaller budget than Winnipeg and Sask and the uber cool of Vancouver.

In all seriousness, we haven't even seen proper detailed drawings of the outside to make a reasoned judgment.

Nonsense. I love Hamilton and the Tiger Cats are the oldest pro football team on the continent. They deserved better than this. BMO? That's an upstart league in an upstart sport. BMO was fine considering.

The CFL is a 100 year old league with average attendance around 28,000. The Hamilton stadium is nowhere near being good enough, especially in light of what other CFL stadia looks like. Instead of arguing that this design is ok, perhaps you should listen to the people that actually matter: the public.

It's quite clear that the majority think this stadium 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. In the end, their opinion is what matters.

Shouldn't that tell you something. Hint, hint $119 million

Or it meant they were so much better and would have cost a lot more than the budget

I meant the designs from the other 2 bidders for the Hamilton stadium

Soccer is an upstart sport? Since when? In North America maybe it is - at a stretch

Why did they deserve better? They are one of two teams losing money because not enough people went to games. Now they have to reduce capacity to increase demand and charge more money and make more money off the amenities from the people who do attend.

Upstart league in an upstart sport? C'mon man, I'll give you credit for having a few more brains than that.

Hamilton got what they deserved, a 22,500 seat stadium for a 22,500 seat audience.

Evidently the majority of people who say it 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 (proof?) weren't big enough fans to come out when it counted, to show that their presence warranted a home like Regina or Winnipeg.

I know, we seem to be the few on the same wavelength here.

I'm just wondering where all the hate from the others is coming from because they can't seem to comprehend why the stadium is the way it is

Agreed 100%.

If there was an inadequate budget on which to build a whole new stadium, then maybe Hamilton shouldn't have built a whole new stadium in the first place.

What's more, this Pan Am Games website says that the stadium budget is actually $145.7 million. Considering that the new Winnipeg stadium budget is slightly under $200 million, one might wonder why the players in Hamilton didn't kick in a few more dollars and do it right the first time.

You guys designed your facility properly so there is nothing to complain about

Congratulations, that looks like a spectacular venue. I have no doubt it will have a transformative effect on the northern edge of downtown Edmonton.

Because nobody gives a $hit. Just kidding. In Canada we know how to build nice arenas because we do it frequently. Stadiums are a lot rarer species, hence people are having more heated discussion.

$119.1 million for actual construction, $26.6 million to be spent on “soft costs” such as project management, transaction fees and a contingency fund. For God's sakes man, Ivor Wynne was nearing its EOL, they had to do something. And the PanAm opportunity fell in their laps.

And of that only $119 million is construction costs.

They (Hamilton City Council) didn't want to put any money into the stadium in the first place - they had to get additional funding to cover the shortfall

Elly, it's like you think there is a big conspiracy against Hamilton in this argument, there isn't. It's just a hideous stadium with no professional look or innovative design to it. That's all. We do not need to outline and pin point everything that is wrong with it, because to us, the design speaks for itself. We can see the renders, and they are horrid. Thank God the main Stadium for Pan-Am is the Skydome is all I can say. People do not like the stadium, it has nothing to do with the actual city of Hamilton or how people feel about the city. In fact, Isaidso and I frequently complement the progress Hamilton is making in other areas of development. Relax.

That's what I meant. Though, it would have been nice if they had done some actual events there. Hopefully the other stadiums and facilities turn out nice.

Actually, would anyone be able to tell me what all is being built for Pan-am? I know there's the Aquatic Centre... the Village... and I think a stadium at York? I'm not sure...
