I don't see the hate for the stadium either

- Individual seats vs wooden bench seating
- Luxury suites
- Improved concessions and councourse areas
- A brand new stadium vs a stadium that was at the end of it's shelf life (and having read some of the condition reports of the old stadium - it was quite scary how bad some things were there)
- plenty of room for expansion should the need arise

And the people in Hamilton won't see their taxes rise to pay for it

Here is the US high school stadium the geniuses on the city council are so enamoured with....nice seats! Not seeing a whole lot of replay monitors there, feel like a burger? Where's the beef? Oh yeah, in the parking lot, should have had the burger before I came in.

Further to add to Frankie:
- 700 club seats
- 20 VIP suites
- Six elevators
- General admission seats are 21 inches wide; club seats are 22 inches and VIP seats are 24 inches wide — wider than industry standard
- Concession stands on all levels of the stadium
- Several hundred LED televisions to be installed in the concourses, washrooms and hospitality areas
- WiFi

The community

- Stadium to host about 1,400 hours of community use per year, including soccer, football, concerts and other community events
- Features public fitness and change rooms
- Designed to allow maximum sunlight on once-shadowed neighbouring streets
- Designed to minimize noise levels for neighbours
- Designed to meet barrier-free guidelines

Based on what I heard and read, getting a new NHL team in Quebec is only part of the intentended benifits behind the new arena. Like the Bell centre, the Quebec arena plans on filling the coffers with shows and concerts, not necessarily hockey.

Oh and that new Hamilton stadium reminds me of the uniprix stadium in Montreal, that's not a compliment.

They were talking about the LOOK of the stadium, the new renders, and they were right. It looks like a Southern high school stadium. That mesh is going to rust within a few years and look even more terrible and out of place than it already will at inauguration. Obviously the facilities are going to be professional quality, but the design sure as hell isn't. Whose genius idea was it to have one stand twice the size of the other stand? I know that's how Ivor Wynne was, but why does it have to be like that again? One video board at one end of the field? and dropping the seating capacity by 7 000? Holy man... what a mess.

At least Uniprix Stadium has an entire bowl of permanent seating.

Well, you see the picture of the high school stadium everyone refers to, does the Hamilton stadium look like that? I'd say you need your eyeglasses prescription checked if you think it does.

The new Soldier Field in Chicago has differing sized stands and I've explained a million times why the capacity was decreased. They were going to build one new side and refurbish the other. The refurbished side's incline was such that they couldn't add seat backed chairs to replace the benches. So instead of having a have and have not side stadium (one with benches and one with seats) they decided to have cost certainty and knock down the side, decrease the capacity to stay within the budget and create two equal quality stands.

Sorry to be an 🞵🞵🞵 but if people are going to 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 for the sake of bitching be prepared to defend yourself.

The main problem is that the City had no control over the RFP process, Infrastructure Ontario did it all. They picked the winning bid, Hamilton City Council didn't.

Secondly Hamilton had a limited budget, $150 million and no more. You get what you can afford.

Lol, you are comparing the Hamilton Stadium to Soldier Field? Soldier field has seating for over 60 000 people, a complete bowl of seating around the field, and the superstructure isn't exposed to the street. Soldier Field looks like a professional stadium, an incredibly well-done professional stadium at that. Sorry, that's weak man. The Hamilton Stadium could easily be more closely compared to the look and feel of that high school stadium than to Soldier Field, easily.

Lol dude, no one needs to defend anything. The stadium is an afterthought and the design shows that crystal clear, just look at it. It's not a secret or an argument, just a fact.

I bet the average person would have a hard time telling which of these two is a professional football stadium and which one is for a high school team:

Pan-Am Stadium, Hamilton, ON - Capacity 22,500

Allen High School Stadium, Allen, TX - Capacity 18,000

If you took the Hamilton stadium, removed the skyboxes and replaced the individual seats with benches, you'd essentially be left with a lesser version of the Allen Stadium.

I don't think anyone here is bashing Hamilton for the sake of bashing Hamilton. I myself want to see Hamilton, the Tiger-Cats, the CFL and Canadian sports in general prosper, and that's why I think building this facility as designed is a big mistake. It's pretty clear from the media reports posted earlier in this thread that even many in Hamilton think so as well. Hamilton can do a lot better than this.

You were the one who said "Whose genius idea was it to have one stand twice the size of the other stand?", well the geniuses who did Soldier Field thought that.

I always like when somebody tells me something subjective is a fact. I'm not too bright, explain it to me. How does the design shown an afterthought (whatever that is), if it's a fact I'm sure you'll be able to provide concrete details which must be difficult when we have no detailed drawings to go by.

Explain away, I'm all ears (or eyes in this case)

And if they added another 40k seats and enclosed the ends the Hamilton stadium could be Gillette Stadium. That's not a great point. Sorry guys but this high school comparison is really lame, in other words people would prefer the picture I posted above?

Allen High School Stadium is only the 3rd largest high school stadium in Texas, BTW.

You're really grasping at straws here, so I digress... grasp away...

The question sounded rhetorical, but okay. Look at the renders and you can clearly see how the entire thing is an afterthought. Unless you are blinded by bias, which seems somewhat likely. Look at the devolution of designs of this stadium and then finally it comes down to this, then tell me it's not an afterthought. Look at the tacked on $50 chicken wire that will be used to make it "look more attractive" from the street, then tall me it's not an afterthought. There is plenty of evidence, figure it out. But as I stated before, I digress, continue grasping at straws...

Excellent news for Edmonton! I'm pretty stoked to hear a more concrete plan for Calgary's rumoured "Stadium District" in the downtown West End near Sunalta Station (the new elevated station)! So exciting!

What ever you try to defend it with doesn't change the fact that it looks second rate. At first glance it looks like either something out of the 50's or a Southern High School Stadium. People aren't saying this just for the sake of saying it. They are saying it because that is the first thought that jumps to their minds whether or not it is true.

You can point out all these minor details that prove that it may be a "professional" stadium. It still looks like 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

But you are right, the "🞵🞵🞵🞵" part is completely subjective. If you think it is good enough than all the power to you. But I can tell you that if that thing was proposed for Winnipeg or any other Western city there would be an absolute uproar, yes I am including from Calgary and those putting up with McMahon.

"Mosquito Netting and Posters"

I'm shocked that it has come to this for Hamilton. I don't think this is what many people expected when they heard Hamilton would be getting a brand new stadium after 85 years of Ivor Wynne. Sure, the updated amenities/facilities will be a practical improvement over the antiquated Ivor Wynne, but aesthetically this new stadium looks very cheap and small-time. And the open-ended endzones won't do anything for game-time atmosphere, in person or on television.

It hasn't even been built yet but unfortunately this stadium already looks dated and inadequate. Altogether, a really poor effort.

And you guys were expecting Cowboys Stadium for $119 million? Well, I still haven't heard one "fact" about how this stadium is "second rate" or an "afterthought" Oops, sorry someone mentioned "chicken wire" what were you expecting, glass brick?

Just piling on for the sake of piling on, people gotta hate.

There is plenty of evidence of it being an afterthought, you say? Great then tell me, I wanna know.

The Olympic Stadium in London had "posters"/fabric wrap on the exterior - did it look second rate?

Without the fabric

Don't forget - we're looking at terrible blurry renders of the outside. I'm not saying it's a beauty of a stadium - and certainly not the best of the designs proposed
