Well, are they actually approved? As far as I could tell, the two hotels were still proposals.

They're not even full-fledged proposals at this point. We don't have many details on either of them, only that they are in the first stages of development. Once we get more details (timelines, room counts, renders, etc.), I would consider them positive rumors.

The Renaissance Hotel proposal seems pretty fleshed out already.

The hotel operator has obviously been identified. We know the room count (450), rough estimate of the height (greater than 20 floors), and the tentative start/completion dates (Q1 2014 and "early 2016," respectively).

Still waiting on renderings.

A Hilton at Olympic and Grand is of course still just a rumor, albeit from a reliable source.

Another rumor floating out there is a hotel at 4th/Hope on the Bank of America Center's plaza.

Anyone have any info on what the end goal is with the repairs/renovation going on at the old Crash Mansion property, 1024 S. Grand Ave?

AT&T Center

Word on the street New York based Chetric Group who rarely sells, is privately marketing one of the tallest buildings in Downtown, 611 W. Sixth St. which sits on the corner of 6th& Grand, formerly known as the AT&T Center built in 1969 which at the time was the tallest building is LA. Plans to convert the 42-story 715,463sf office tower into more than 500 residential and commercial condominiums were placed on hold in 2010. Interestingly enough the notoriously private company recently closed on a $1.1 billion purchase of the Sony tower at 550 Madison Avenue, NY, which the group plans to convert into high-end retail shops, luxury condominiums. The Chetric Group outbid 20 other investment bidders for the Sony building with a $100 million down payment and a letter of credit worth nearly $600 million from a sovereign Middle Eastern investment fund. The company also plans to invest $500 million to renovate the building into condominiums.

930 S. Hill
Rumor has it 930 S. Hill St, the historic structure right behind the United Artist Theater and soon to be home to the ACE Hotel and Blackstone Apartments, is quietly being converted into apartments.

Historic Gas Company Lofts
The inside scoop on the Historic Gas Company lofts, located at 810 S. Flower in South Park which was one of the first adaptive reuse projects in Downtown LA is up for sale and being handled by Hendricks & Berkadia.

The 251 unit project including ground floor retail recently received their best and final offers from bidders and will be picking a buyer any day now. Estimates are above $80 million for purchase (51 units are workforce housing).

The Pattern Bar
Rumor has it Pattern Bar, the popular watering hole some argue has the best music in downtown located on 9th & Los Angeles is looking into expanding its premises with a new basement dance venue so we can all have more space to dance the night away!

Los Angeles Stock Exchange
Los Angeles Stock Exchange building at 618 South Spring Street, commonly known at the ‘Exchange Building’ which is home to the popular nightclub ‘Exchange LA’ Building is up for sale.
The beautiful 1933 historic tower is being marketed as a creative conversion opportunity.

Australian Retailer “Face Off”
Coming to 9th and Broadway
Rumor has it the high end Australian retailer Face Off has signed a deal to replace the check cashing service location at the corner of 9th and Broadway in the beautiful Anjac Fashion Building.

Wow! The Blackstone and the Ace Hotel are continuing their influence of the north end of Broadway. Face Off will be joining angelo:HOME, Sparkle Factory, Urban Outfitters (now coming to the Rialto Theater), Jason’s Market, and Swedish fashion chain Acne Studios coming to the corner of the Eastern Columbia Building. Bringing Back Broadway is alive and well.

Looks like that is retail space on 9th/Bway that is currently a check cashing space that is closing!

Damn! More then anything, I am excited about a possible AT&T sale. I feel that more then anything, the AT&T building, being completely empty, is driving up the office vacancy rates. Also, all the retail coming to southern Broadway is great, though I certainly wouldn't consider Face Off to be high end. More like medium low end, or about the same as Gap.

Some more good news on the food/drink front. Eater LA reports that Kitchen 24, the 24-hour bar/diner in Hollywood and WeHo is opening somewhere downtown later this year. Exact location unannounced.

Aaaaaaaaand the good news keeps on coming. Just received a Notice of Public Hearing for an application for a zoning change in the mail. Here's the Proposed Project:

"The construction of a new 41-story building, consisting of a 36-story residential tower with 300 condominium units, approximately 3,400 square feet of project-serving retail uses, and a parking garage, including five stories above-ground and five stories below-ground, on a portion of a site adjacent to the historic former St. Vibiana's Cathedral and Rectory, which will be used as a commercial assembly space and future catering and restaurant space."

So it looks like the St. Vibiana Tower is coming back from the dead. You heard it here first, folks.

The public hearing is Wednesday, June 5th at 12:30 in Room 1020 of City Hall. I won't be able to attend, but anyone who can, please show up and speak in support of the project. And in support of a good design. Hopefully this is something nice.

I'm sorry, but what's the big deal about this news? Nothing's official yet and it's not like we didn't know about this proposal already.

While it's not official, the fact that a developer applied for a zoning change shows that at least some progress is being made on a project that hasn't had movement since 2008, at least.

And, if I recall correctly, I think a similar application was the first sign that iHope was coming back to life...

EDIT: And happy 400th page! 100 more pages to go before we have to start thinking about a new thread. Time sure flies...

At this point, we'll take anything.

Does anyone have a rendering of this supposed brought back from the dead project? Surely there were previous renders? Sorry, i'm not familiar with this project.

Anything remotely close to that height would definitely stand out in that neighborhood. In fact, it'd be pretty similar to the AT&T Center. I'd love to see that kind of density pushing its way east.

that facade is too busy!! Hopefully they go with a nice contextual design with a alot of minimalism esp being next to St. Vibianas.

Thats assuming that any of these other buildings get built. Even so, St. Vib is still several blocks away so anything 40 stories next to it would be relatively far from anything even close to that height.
