First the protruding tower crane base now this massive transfer floor slab. Never seen anything like it.

I think the second pour (20") is underway now. From my perch at 161 N. Clark, it seems
like I can still see about 20" or so of the side of the form. They have both the pump and buckets (being hauled up by the crane) working.

Another update - these guys are working late on a Friday - they are finishing the pour
today - they are about 50% done with the top layer and it doesn't look like they are quitting tonight till its done.

Whoa, that crane set up is awesome. Reminds me of the crane they had attached to the side of One World Trade in NYC.

Thanks for that last set, harry. Very interesting engineering going on with that transfer floor. I'd love to see the calculations behind that slab and those column reconfigurations.

I noticed the columns don't line up either! This is an oddly engineered building (at least to the untrained eye).

Just out of morbid curiosity, what would happen in a completed building if, say, two floors burned hot enough for those cables to stretch enough to lose their compression capability? How critical are they to the structural security of a building?

Would be tensile strength - embedded deep in the concrete that would need to be a really hot AND long fire. Upper Wacker is post stress as well, I wonder if potential car fires (more common here) were taken into account ?

I doubt Wacker is in any danger. A few inches of well-poured concrete is extremely good insulation for the tendons; it should give many hours of protection. The car fire would likely burn itself out before the tendons start to heat up, even if the firemen never show up.

A collision from a really massive vehicle might hit a column or beam and compromise the structure, but that's an issue with conventional concrete structures too; the post-tensioning is irrelevant at that point.

Hot fire concerns are limited to reinforced concrete ceilings that support substantial weight above. In the case of Wacker Drive, it basically supports nothing above. Whereas say..... I-696 in Detroit supports a massive city park above, and therefore signage indicates Flammable and Explosive Cargo is strictly prohibited.
