Nice pic, Someone is in my spot, I'll be right back..

I've been in this bldg. some time ago and never realized you could get such a great panorama shot from the 6th/flr..of Winnipeg looking N/E, with Wellington Cresc, as well. A great vantage point for the future dev. coming down the pipes, D-Condos, Assiniboine and Fortress proposal,Convention Center /Hotel proposal as well. The leaves will make it pop)..

Cousin went in to look at, and put an offer on Glasshouse today. I don't know how reliable she is as a source but she told me that Glasshouse sold or had offers for half of the building within 4 hours of opening the sales office. Take this with a grain of salt. On the bright side, even if these are adjusted by a realtor or something, what this does prove is that there is a vested interest in downtown condo living.

Here is her words ver bat em "But they had sold half the building by the time we got there, 4 hours into the open house!"

Speaking of my cousin, she is interested in purchasing for District as well (she works as a director in the Theatre District). Does anyone have the prices and floor plans for District Condos?

There is a good chance some of these units would go for daily rentals. I think that is an undeveloped market here.

If that was true, and if it just happened to sell out so quickly, it might make them reconsider a second tower?

Exclamation Fortress announcement

Does anyone know if Fortress has set a time and place to show the proposal on May 22? Or perhaps it'll only be posted on its website?

If it's a public event, seems there should be a notice in the Free Press or business publications.

I noticed the antique furniture company is moving out of the Peck building and into a new space. Clearing the way for redevelopment? Maybe yournextplace bought it to go along with their recent conversion down the street that just finished (370 Donald)?

if they were rented out im assuming they would cost about 1500 dollars a month rent minimum

but maybe we were underestimating winnipegs growth.. the demand for housing seems to be strong, so there might be a market for condos downtown aswell... d condos 40 percent sold in 3 months.. if glasshouse is that far along already.. im thinking fortress development project... with all its amenities and a grocery store all as part of the same complex will have no problem selling 50 percent of its units within a few months...

i mean these projects wont be completed til 2015 - 2016 minimum so by than our population could have grown by anther 15 - 20 thousand

i think a decent elementry or junior high needs to be built downtown now aswelll.. i dont think most parents want to send thier kids to gordon bell school. it doesnt have the best reputation.

although st b isnt to far from dt... but im wondering what the nearest schools are to accommodate this tremendous growth in the area.. if a school was built in the area aswell as a grocery shop it would make it more appealing to some ppl... maybe convert portage place mall into a school... hire security to work the doors to insure only students have access? or even the bay convert that into an elementary junior high school??

No new schools will happen downtown. There are already several schools, ie Sister Macnamara at Sargent and Balmoral, mere blocks from the school you proposed at Portage and Memorial. If there were parents living downtown that did not want their children attending the existing area schools there are already procedures in place to have them transferred to another school.

Found this on Wikipedia. It's the former City Hall and Volunteer Monument. It's a shame that they demolished this building in 1962. IMO it's beautiful.

Every time somebody posts a picture of the old Winnipeg City Hall, a small piece of me dies.

it was in the way of the mayors plan of a utopia dream, thus all the ugly — built in the area that in the end either cost millions to fix or is being torn down now. To name a few, Museum ( was fixed ) Concert Hall ( was fixed ), PBS building ( junk ), ugly parkade ( really junk ), Council chambers and city hall, ( UGLY ) This was also the time said Mayor put in the Disrelli FWY and it was all part of his UTOPIAN DREAM.

its foundation had failed and resulted in it starting to colaps because in the 40's the ground shifted and it needed emergency repairs... councle decided it must not look like its spending money on its self so it voted not to fix it

Council.
Your spelling is vastly improved so I'm not trying to harp on you but that one's starting to grate on me a little.

Old city hall

Just to clarify, someone said before that to demolish and replace the old city hall was the mayor's dream, but in fact the original Juba scheme to replace city hall (which won a large majority vote in a civic referendum) was to put the new building in what is now Memorial Park. It was only after the premier, Duff Roblin, offered money to build it and a whole civic centre and centennial centre on north Main that the scheme was moved back. There was, in fact, a design offered by some architects at the time which preserved the old building. Though there were a lot of articles at the time that said the building had structural issues.
