It is still very difficult to say how well the colors will match. The glass looks different color depending on the weather and angle you are looking from. We need few more floors ready to see it better. I really hope it will be a very close match.

Agreed.
The difference in elevation / reflection angle seems to result in a gradual lightening the higher you go
- so it may have to wait until the last floor for a full evaluation.

"Looking from inside the units, during the day, the new glass looks just perfect and better than my expectations. However at nights I prefer the old glasses as they are clearer and downtown lights are more visible. Temperature wise the new glass should make a lot of difference. I think on the whole the owners would be very pleased with the outcome."

If there are significant energy savings using reflective or dark tinted glass, why aren't there more towers with reflective glass? Probly look better too.

Because most towers aren't a big wall of glass. Most have a ton of spandrel and concrete walls as well as balconies to reduce heat gain. One Wall is basically one giant greenhouse.

Owner? I thought this was a hotel? There are no balconies.

Isn't this supposed to be a Sheraton? Colleagues often stay here when in the office from out of town.

Bottom 27 floors is the hotel, rest is club Intrawest/private residents.

Good to hear.
At night there's probably a lot more reflection of the interior - that's the case in TD Tower at night - you can barely see out unless the lights are dimmed.

Looking at this purely from the esthetics point of view, I am sure the daytime view from apartments will look better. Currently the sunshine outside can be quite intense, so dimming it down slightly will be an improvement. However, I am not so sure about the night time view. I love watching the city below when lying in the bed, so it's really a bummer if the view gets much dimmer.

I will know personally in few weeks time.

Yes...which is why the glass is being replaced with a darker one. Have you not read the hundreds of posts on this matter?

47th floor was completed today and they lowered the platform down to 46th floor. I don't have time to take a new photo of the building this week, so hopefully someone else will post one.

One week from now it will be our turn here on the 45th floor. Will be an interesting week.

I was busy this week, but here is an update. There was a small setback with the project on Thursday, when installation of a window on the 46th floor broke the new window above it. Apparently the window element fitting is so tight that they may break a neighboring window if too much force is applied.

This means they will need to raise the platform back to the 47th floor tomorrow morning, replace the broken window and then lower it to 45th floor. So tomorrow afternoon things are going to get exciting as the work on our floor begins.

This week they were already preparing for the work on our floor. All curtains were removed, ventilation windows were replaced with a plywood and they did two holes in our inner walls for the platform achors. These holes, as well as any other occurring damage, will be repaired the following week.

Also in the hallway a major preparation work has been underway as they have been covering all the wall and floor surfaces. By doing this they try to prevent any damage to the interiors. You can tell that they do proper job with covering all surfaces.







Also one of the two residential elevators is completely modified for the project. They are using it for transporting workmen and also the window elements themselves. Interesting to note is the extension they built to one of the corner so they can fit the huge window elements inside the elevator. Surprisingly enough there was extra room in the elevator shaft to do this.

Out of curiosity, do the condos in your building have built in sound systems? The father of a friend of mine from high school designed the in-suite sound systems for the hotel and - I thought - the rest of the building. If so, how does it sound?

Interesting to hear and you have understood correctly. There are 5 speakers built-in in the living room ceiling for front, center and rear channels. They look high quality, but the only problem is that they are positioned with the idea of having your television inside one of the built-in living room cabinets. This cabinet can only fit a 40" television, which was fine back in 2001, but in 2013 there are not many with so tiny television in their living room anymore.

So the sound system goes unused in our case.
