I have a real Love / Hate thing going on with teases like that. I appreciate the sparse info and feel like I'm in the loop, but damn can it be frustrating for us highrise junkies to wait to hear the rest of the story like everyone else!

Of course I do understand that it's in some cases it's unprofessional or illegal to offer too much information about projects early on.

its interesting that they are testing the soils all across the site at p&m...it would indicate a podium design of some kind. I wonder if they will be given a curb cut and drop off on main street.....that would be typical of the city.

Some site fencing gone up a Dcondo today, if you can call it that. Looks like they leaned some sections up against the existing wrought iron. But looks like demo day is getting closer.

are there people willing to purhchase condos in downtown.. all this sounds promising but at the end of the day will people pay to live in glasshouse condos, fortress condos, and d condos??

and i really hope westin hotel goes through... that would be huge... i mean 5 to 6 new highrises downtown will make huge difference in our downtown.. but will they ever get built tired of this speculation. WHere is all this huge market for condos in downtown.. to support so many high rises..

D Condos did the pre-sale. And within their first month of pre-sale they sold 30% of the condos. I think there is a market, just a silent one.

Are these your own personal statistics?

Also, Glasshouse is already under construction.

Not sure that's precisely true. There's work on the site but I don't think they are specifically building Glasshouse yet.

Bartley Kives' article from yesterday suggests that it hasn't been greenlit yet - likely because there is a minimum amount of sales that need to be made, first.

I would put Westin in the 90-100 category and glasshouse in the 40-70.

I'm shocked there's demand for a luxury hotel downtown. i do understand all the demand for the "suite" hotels in airport area, but high end luxury. good on winnipeg, I'm happy, just surprised.

^ im the opposite...i don't get who stays in all the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 wood frame super 8esque hotels in st. james....why would anyone stay there?....even being close to the airport, why would you want that?...its a $20 cab ride to downtown and it takes 10 minutes...this isn't toronto.....why stay in an industrial park?...if you are flying to winnipeg for business it certainly isn't in st james so why stay there?...if you are a tourist it makes even less sense.

a city of 800k people with no real luxury hotel makes no sense to me at all.....how the fairmont has hung on to that banner for so long i will never get....the Westin will demolish the fairmont....when i was involved they were salivating at the opportunity to come to winnipeg....

$308,900 for the 822 sq. ft., two bedroom model at Glasshouse with Condo fees range from $180-$350 and parking is an additional $39,500. Might be a bit pricey for this market IMO.

The hotels out by the airport aren't cheap.

Also, most business travelers tell their company which hotels they want to stay at. The Westin will be REALLY popular as it allows travelers to Winnipeg to stay downtown and collect their coveted Starwood points.

I work in the airport area and these hotels are primarily filled with 1/2 ton trucks. Mostly trade guys working on projects.

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/Dubrovnik-demolition-within-next-few-days-206900351.html

A once-popular high-end Winnipeg eatery — Restaurant Dubrovnik — will soon be reduced to rubble to make way for the new D Condo housing development on downtown Assiniboine Avenue.
Imrie Construction crews are expected to demolish the two-storey building at 390 Assiniboine Ave. within the next few days so developer Sandu Developments Inc. can begin conducting bedrock tests on the site.....

City to get a touch of glass
Condo project touted as jewel in downtown

Potential owners and curious onlookers got a first-hand feel of what a $55-million condominium complex to be built between Donald and Hargrave streets just off Portage Avenue will look like when a full-scale display unit was unveiled at cityplace mall Wednesday afternoon.

Construction on the 195-unit Glasshouse Skylofts, a development being widely touted as one of the most crucial elements of downtown’s Sports Hospitality and Entertainment District, is expected to begin early next year with occupancy starting in early 2016.

It will likely be announced shortly. I have fairly good confidence in this project. It is amazing that they are/were able to keep it as quiet as they have. I think it is a great location as well.
