That building is awesome, and very underrated. And worry not, it is not abandoned or threatened. Before Canadian Pacific went on a rampage and tore down the neighbourhood south of St-Antoine, this part of town used to be full of buildings such as this one. As one of the last ones standing, it will surely not be going anywhere anytime soon.
By the way, that building was built in 1935 as the central post office of Montreal. It is now used by Federal government agencies.
Absolutely not, I also think that if it came to that, this building could be a great podium for a future development, like a massive tower. Who knows what the future holds, as this part of downtown becomes re-intergrated into the urban fabric, land values are going to rise and older buildings are going to have to adapt, or go. But that's in a few decades from now.
This building is fucking awesome. Always loved it, even when it was soot-encrusted during the 70s.

What this city needs not is not a hero, but a office glass block on top of that building extending a few hundredth meters into the air!
But then everything inside would be lost forever. A building is much more than what you can see from the outside. Saving the shell isn't preservation. What about the floors, ceilings, interior walls, doors, etc.?

Well some people don't see the beauty in a 57 Chevy either.

You're just going to have to donate one of them to the 'isaidso' fund.

With the exception of the Southcore Delta hotel eventually poking up somewhere between the Shangri-La and the leftmost Ice tower, that view of the skyline won't change much for a couple years, by which time Ten York, One York and Harbour Plaza Residences will start to make an impact.
So many ugly waterfront buildings. Especially the brownish beige looking ones to the right. Hopefully we can say good bye to those sometime in the near future.
....Too bad the TD bank towers aren't a little bit taller. They look really great.

I rant about those all the time. I consider them to be one of the worst mistakes the city has made because it creates a 30 floor high wall 500 ft wide and dissects the waterfront in half. You have to walk around it, and not on the lake side. My eye is drawn to that scar on our waterfront in every shot from the Islands.
It's called Harbour Square and we're likely stuck with it for the next 100 years.

^^^ That sucks. They are so hideous maybe some developer can sneakily buy it and tear them down at night and free the skyline of their tyranny. I also hate those beige buildings to the right of the CN Tower.
And FCP has to do something about that poo poo on the roof.

Agree with all that, but no one is going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to buy Harbour Square just to demolish it. As nice as that would be, it's still a huge waste of money. Maybe a tornado can take it out.

Winnipeg's potential future skyline in the next few years. A good number of these are under construction already, with more beginning soon. Some are proposals.
My edit of TrueVikings picture.

There are multiple rumours, each presenting a different scenario. I simply presented the most optimistic of these scenario's. It is a future render, so I didn't feel like cutting everyone out of what could possibly be of the development. We will find out how tall and how many towers are a part of the Fortress development.
But yes the rumours are a) New Tallest for the city. and b) 1-3 towers c) grocery store d)offices e) restaurant f) 80-250 million project.
