I mean i dunno what ups wit dat no announcement.. no fencing, no news reports, no ceremonies... westin dont want to build no hype or what.. i dont get it... is this project really a high rise or just some cheap parkade.. sounds like some false flag, seems like this gonna lead to some disappointment.

After all it is a private company. Don't think they NEED to make a public announcement, by law or anything. Would be nice though!

And they haven't started construction yet. I'm sure a fence will go up shortly.

We should be happy that Greg and Shammy haven't been seen polishing up their over sized scissors for this one. I am sick of seeing those two make like they worked for hours putting plans together for every project in Winnipeg.

Drove by there a couple weeks ago and seemed like there was a rather large hole in the ground. That'll clean up that area nicely, the strip mall was nasty.

Sorry, what project is this again?

Site not: The shopping mall sign has the form of an old Co-op sign. Was there an old Co-op grocery store at this location years ago? I'm just old enough to remember those in Winnipeg before they all dissapeared in the early 80s.

^ Interesting. The buildings look a little bland, but it's still good to see something like that go up on that piece of property.

Rothesay Apartments:

Good infill project, 215 residential units, nice to see in this location

Akman Construction is currently building a new 215 unit multi-family rental complex for Edison Properties in North Kildonan. The project will include three 10-story towers on a four story podium, commercial space on the main floor, and underground parking.

Yeah nothing too fancy. They'll fit in well with the neighbourhood I think. Edison's other large properties a block away are of a similar look, but from the 60's or whenever they were built.

Fortress Winnipeg concept

Since residential floors are only about 3/4 the height of offices, the proposed Fortress tower will need to approach 50 floors to eclipse 201 Portage. I have doubts there's a market for such a tower in Winnipeg. Given the vagueness of the project so far, I suspect its landmark status will be based on its mixed use concept and style rather than on height. So, at best, it will be the tallest residence in the city, topping 55 Nassau's 38 floors, rather than be the tallest building in the city.

I don't think Co-op was ever on that site, they were located where the Henderson public library is located now. The Rothesay site was a Penner's grocery followed by Peter's grocery when Penner's re-located to the old Loblaw's site beside the Curtis motel on Henderson. Of course that is all gone now with a new Sobey's on Henderson situated on the old Gambles-Zeller's site, which formerly was the El Dorado Drive In theatre site.

I tend to agree however I can not say for certain it was not a Co-op before the location on Henderson opened, but that is going far back.

Pretty sure when Penner Foods moved to Hendeson, Wiebe's moved into the site from the smaller location on Roch and Devon where the North Kildonan Montessori is now.

I remember Wiebe's moving in when Penner's took over the old Loblaws store. I don't recall a Peters store at all in that location.
