Sorry I removed the image due to it's large size in this reply...

Yes it is owned by CN in Sask. What is CN planing on doing to upgrade thier line in Sask?

But I guess what ur getting at is the oil to churchill link is not feasible do to the poor condition of the rail line, other wise posting a picture of a train derailment in Sask. is a terrible situation, I agree the derailment is terrible and I'm glad no one was seriously hurt.

So your saying the proposal to ship crude to manitoba's arrtic port is not feasible?

No, I am just showing that it is probably true that expensive upgrades might be required.

REGINA – A disgruntled rural municipality in southwestern Manitoba wants to secede from the province and join Saskatchewan.

The R-M of Glenwood says it does not agree with the N-D-P government’s plan to save money by amalgamating municipalities with fewer than one-thousand residents.

AdvertisementWalter Finley, a Glenwood municipal councillor, says the R-M’s administration costs are already low, and amalgamation would drive them up.

He says Glenwood has more in common with Saskatchewan than with the government in Winnipeg, and feels the province doesn’t care much about the western half of Manitoba. Source global Regina

I appoligize before hand for posting what I'm going to post in this thread, And I will leave it be after I post. For obvious reasons ...imo...this thread should be branched into Man. other Developements....Sask other Developments..Simple. This thread is big enough and has enough developements in both provinces to do so. Posters in both provinces should express thier opinions reg: this in my imo..and I would like a MOD to contact me ....If they feel differently. I don't want to offend anyone but the last post by the poster summed it up perfectly..you see the train rec pic to by another poster...Let it be..time to branch outward..

Did you check Brad Wall's comments? Pretty cute:

Quote:
When asked to comment on the situation Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall admitted he hasn't heard from any western Manitoba RMs but he joked that some key questions would have to be asked.

"For example is there oil? Do they have some pump jacks? It would take care of a problem because we've been through horizontal drilling trying to take care of Manitoba's oil."

He went on to say that some of the residents there might not like what would be "required" of them to join Saskatchewan.

"They're going to have to decide whether or not they're prepared to change football teams," he told reporters at the Legislature Wednesday. "They're going to have to give a pledge of allegiance if they were to come to a big green flag with a white 's' on it and maybe they're not ready to do that."

It's just a few people from Saskatchewan smugly gloating, stirring the pot. That is all this is.

Their good fortunes won't last long forever, and like everything else, will eventually come crashing down to Earth.

Sask resident
I feel switching provinces would not solve their money problems. I think the only thing they can do is vote in the next election and send a message to their government.

No more than NE BC has from colonial government from Victoria, Southern Alberta from Edmonton, Northwestern Ontario from Toronto, etc.

I think it's time to let this topic die since it will never happen.

But they sure like their infrastructure, health care costs etc. paid for primarily through taxation collected in the capital region of the province.

Which keep being reduced, consolidated or outright cut to keep funding the centre. Also infrastructure pretty much has to outright collapse before something gets repaired or refurbished. Oh, and how about sacrificing huge areas of farmland to flooding to protect Winnipeg.
Then there is Bi-pole West, the huge money waster because some wanna-be tree huggers in Winnipeg wants it done.
Nope, the powers that be in the Legislature have no use for Western Manitoba, we'd be better off as part of Saskatchewan.

We're circling the drain, that's for sure.

This all stems from forced RM almalgamation. Now many towns and RM's have amalgamated where it made sense (RM of Turtle Mtn and Town of Killarney have joined) but I think now the Municipal Board under direction from the Sillinger Govt are now forcing it down the RM's throat. I guess now we know a little of what First Nations feel when they scream bloody murder if they are not "consulted". It doesn't feel very good and especially when it is done by a Premier and Caucus who are to a person from Winnipeg.

It's interesting that some of the same people decrying forced amalgamations of municipalities under 1000 people are often the same arguing for the amalgamation of school divisions, health authorities, government departments, etc...

"When it's my municipality that's forced to amalgamate, it's bad - administrative costs go up and there are no efficiencies to be found. When it's elsewhere or doesn't relate to me directly, amalgamation and mergers save money, are more efficient, and reduce duplication".
