I take it back, this bad boy, is not under construction.

Looks like they are still doing some demo work on the parking garage. I have some photos of the work at it's current state, will post shortly.

Rest assured Cal, I work right next to the site, I'll be sure to put it in the right folder when it is appropriate.

Will this protion be preserved? If this is the case, then for what reason? Interesting to see the columns being removed quite meticulously.

That building will Receive the facade. The building they're gutting isn't art deco but po-mo.

I believe its a heritage building that got its shell resurfaced to look po-mo, and we are losing it. Instead of restoring it to its former glory, they're demolishing it. This building below is the only one being 'saved', although it's being moved to the north side of the lot and its exterior shell is likely the only thing that will be restored. The rest will likely end up at the City dump.

I'm hoping it will get the same quality restoration to the shell as a similar building just one block north of here:

Before:

After:

the building currently being demoed in the picture is a pomo building, completely new. It was built in the 1980's before the original version of the BAC got cancelled. the currrent facade will be moved over to that location, and will likely look very similar to the Dineen building, but it will house mechanical equipment on the inside rather than offices.

So the po-mo is new and will be demolished while the exterior wall of the heritage building will be moved and restored? Ok, that sounds more acceptable even though we're still losing the interior of the heritage building.

not like the interior of the dineen building was preserved either.. I doubt there is anything left of the original interior anyways. most of those century old buildings received interior renos sometime in the last hundred years, like most houses and office buildings.

So they're demolishing things to build this one? I thought they had already built the foundations when they built BAC.

The podium will be on the southeast corner of the lot so all the buildings there will either be demolished or moved to the north end of the site.

No it wasn't, but Toronto seems to think that saving an exterior wall equals preservation. It doesn't. Sometimes it makes sense to 'modernize' the interior. Other times we attempt to rid ourselves of responsibility or guilt with these facade jobs: 100 Adelaide West? 95% of that building is going to the City dump yet the developer has the nerve to gloat about their 'preservation' job.

These people need to get real and call a spade a spade. The Concourse Building will never ever end up on the program at Doors Open because everything inside will be destroyed. Just because it looks like a building is still there from the outside doesn't mean it is.
