Yes, nothing will be built there. The park has actually been open for over a year. Could do with some mature trees, but that will happen eventually I suppose.

And the big push vertically hasn't happened yet. There's a massive number of towers that are in the proposal stage or just broke ground. I can see 3 pits in that last photo: Studio, Bisha, and Bond.

Is it just me, or is the new glass atrium over the train-shed taking a long time?

Is it just me, or is the new glass atrium over the train-shed taking a long time?
It does seem to have ground to a halt, but it should be noted that the train shed represents only a small fraction of the work being done. Most of the work is taking place below ground to expand the station.

I know that. I was referring directly to the glass atrium, not the rest of it. The underground work seems to be going pretty quickly, considering how complex the work actually is! It's very impressive what they're doing. Unfortunately all of this work will only bring it up to 2010 capacity levels. It's going to over-capacity by the time of completion.

I do remember being really impressed with Toronto driving in from Hamilton when I was there in February. (The approach from Ottawa didn't impress me as much because I didn't have a pre-boom reference point)
That is completely opinion, save for the Bow, which is amazing, I find most of Calgary's tallest towers quite boring and uninspired on their own.
I would gladly take our "short" Shangri-La, One Wall Centre, Vancouver's Turn, Beach and Howe, and even the Georgia residence towers over most of Calgary's tallest.
Beach and Howe is going to be amazing, as will Vancouver's Turn.
I now some in Calgary hate the thought of someone playing with the idea that another western city in Canada might have some towers that are architecturally more interesting, even if they are not quite as tall. Its actually funny to see some take such a harmless comment so personally.
Oh, and by saying "I am not trying to start a city vs. city" does not let you off the hook, it is like the classic "I am not racist...." comment where you then say something racist hehe.
nothing personal or any hate. i love vancouver's skyline. i just think that calgary's top towers are better than vancouvers top towers. thats all.

I would trade most buildings in Calgary for Shangri-La, Vancouvers Turn and the Beach & Howe towers. I think One Wall Centre looks silly with the change in glass, if they kept it dark it would have been sick!. The only untouchables here I think would have to be The Bow (obviously), Suncor, Bankers Hall, EAP1 and Devon (formerly Canterra).
No need for anyone to get personal and insult people from other cities just because they have different views and tastes. Architecture is very subjective, that's one of the great things about it. I think Vancouver has a great skyline and style, but the fact that so many buildings have similar massing and materials detracts from it a bit. Are there still guidelines with regards to the colour of glass?
