For me the most interesting art installation was the "grow-op". Not sure what the message was there, perhaps "Ops, we forgot to move that!"

Anyway, only had the chance tonight to see it and fortunately was there for the pyro show. Loved the "pin hole".

It's too bad we didn't run into each other, as we were there from about 7:10-8:30 (couldn't stay for the pyro show because of the kids bedtime. Was it cool?).

The "pin hole" was awesome, one of my reasons for going back is to see it again. The artist says it looks really cool in the mornings.

It's good. Adds some interest to the back side of the Bow.

Its like one of those lululemon shopping bags that has happy inspirational words written on the side. Oh Lethbridge! Big Valley! Edmonton! Tree phallus sitting man thing! Well, art is subjective, I guess.

Like the details. Looks like it's about to come alive. Wish it was bigger though.

Out last night with friends and I was talking about this piece, one buddy who works for Cenovus suggested the name "Giant Tree —".

I like it.

In other news, heard a couple months back that the Emergency Operations centre may not be getting the interactive metal staircase art piece. The artist has fallen into financial trouble.

The original words were quite abstract, and were objected to, and so were swapped out with Alberta place names.

Unfortately not - I don't know if the guy had done this before or not, but he didn't really seem to understand how fire worked and how to set up a "running" fire. Truthfully, I have seen much better pyro shows at Scout camps!

Definitely one of the better executed exhibits. I must admit that the quality really did range - but I guess that is what art is about.

One of my personal favs was the bathroom of the "first" house (most SW) that was full of concrete. Something about "leaving a dump" just made me smile inside (yes, base humour!)

Heard from a friend who lives nearby that things got really rowdy last night and perhaps a bit out of control. Friday was noisy, but supposedly last night there was some noticable damage to surrounding property. If true, that is too bad.

Wow, so the corporate client knows better than the artist? That takes this down a notch in my books. Not only have they basically selected a piece he's done numerous times, but they had him dumb it down to be more literal too? I love how corporate Calgary's idea of commissioning a piece of art is looking through a catalogue and seeing prior work the artist did and saying "I want that one" as if it's some ready made product in a Sears catalogue.

When I was in Chicago recently (for the American Planning Association Conference) I was amazed at the amount of digital art that was being used, particularly downtown. The Fairmont Chicago had a particularly great example. As soon as I download all the photos from my camera; I'll post a pic.

If they were really going to go for the Alberta dream it should have said things like: Pickup trucks, Oil, Money, Hummers, Truck balls, Yeehaw!! Just my 0.02.
