The new square floor plate jutting out will not be substantially smaller than the existing round floor plate. I don't know the structural specifics of what they are doing now but it will not result in a substantial loss of floor space.

Other Nordstrom renders
Retail Insider has posted renders of Ottawa (Rideau), Calgary (Chinook), and Toronto (Sherway Gardens) stores.

The lack of need to create multi-use facilities naturally leads to somewhat cleaner designs.

Expect a similar look on the bottom 2 floors of the Pacific Centre Nordstrom.

Remember this is their flagship location, it will look good.

The Chinook store is my favourite. I like how they are all modern riffs on the traditionally-understated Nordstrom look.

I don't want to see LED walls like the Salt Lake location. That's too cheesy, IMO.

I'm actually hoping that the spandrel panels in the alcove facing Howe will be backlit with LEDs. That section of the building will be very boring without anything interesting, given that the mid-block store entrances have been removed.

Yes, and the other stores look "suburban," too. Ours looks and feels like downtown.

Retail Insider
So those other stores are dolled-up big-box suburban retail that may look ok but make no contribution to the urban realm whatsoever. Don't see anything to be envied there...

Overall I think the new Nordstrom buildings are outstanding!

Chinook being the edgiest, the cubist extrance box is fantastic!! They are pure modernist structures that will undoubtably age very well, most certainly a 'less is more' approach. Nordstrom is obviously upping their game for Canada, having spent many years in the states, Nordstrom played it very safe both with their interiors and exteriors, no one ever looked to Norsdtrom for cutting edge anything, so I'm very excited about their efforts so far!

I don't know if I'd call it really "cubist." It doesn't really glare out as such in other renderings. And the angular office entrance is, well, just the angular office entrace.
It's not a pretentious building.

Pic by me today - that low beam is being jackhammered for removal.
(In retrospect, I think that it may have been there just to support the display window that used to be near that location)
