Well that's too bad. The building and it's property are falling apart. Never nice to see a new building beside a rotting one.

will the PST hike impact any developments in any serious manor? I suppose when a project is in the multimillions, that extra percent can mean a lot

If all of the construction materials are sourced out of Alberta for example it means a saving of 8%. Who doesn't buy stuff online to save the PST?

Judging by the number of vehicles I saw pulling trailers full of building material out of Menard's, Lowes and Home Depot with Manitoba plates on the weekend people are already sick of Manitoba taxes and the GST.

When you get a rebate of the ND state sales tax and with an $800 personal exemption after 48 hrs. in the US the number of Manitobans purchasing goods in the US will only accelerate. Thanks NDP!

Don't forget that most building products are also duty free as long as they are made in Canada/USA/Mexico. So they don't even affect your $800 limit.

You could go to Menards and buy $10,000 worth of stuff and drive it back over the border an hour later without paying a cent in duty or taxes.

I'm pretty certain you would pay PST/GST on the value of those goods over and above your personal exemption. Anyone else know?

i was going through the Estimates for the upcoming fiscal year, perhaps the NDP should stop spending the millions and millions they do each year subsidizing university tuition rates.

Lowest tuition rates in the country besides quebec and NL. Making the approx. 42,000 full time students from U of Manitoba, Brandon, and Winnipeg pay an extra 1000 a year in tuition, (which would still be about 800$ below national average) would free up 42,000,000 a year.......or maybe just completely stop subsidizing Arts degrees...

Not even factoring in RRC and other post secondary schools...

Yes that is correct.

I recently bought a big Simplicity Commercial snow thrower at Northern Tool, saving almost $1200 over Yetman's. I had to pay PST/GST on the way home but applied for and received a rebate on ND sales tax.

I have another question about this building. The original render seemed to have a patio or some such in the foreground, the new image has what looks like lines for parking on the ground.

Has the patio been removed and replaced with some surface parking?

The Chamber of Commerce opposed it? When Ontario implemented it, local businesses had a collective orgasm. The small business I work for is saving thousands of dollars a year with the HST (at least in terms of administrating the tax), and I have been getting monthly tax rebates that are larger than the quarterly ones I was getting under our PST. But I don't really buy all that much that is subjected to HST that wasn't subjected to PST in the past, and many of the previous exemptions remained in place in Ontario, such as no PST on fast food orders under $4.

I support a 1% increase if they were to take all the school taxes off my property bill. we are one of the few provinces that collect school taxes off property bills, most it comes from general coffers. good news is they eliminated from seniors property owners, so that's an extra $1000 for my in-laws and $1800 for my parents. good for them, i guess.
