I always had that same thing in mind for south land but not on such a grand scale. I would like to see that area turned into a water park. It would be a great place for ppl to go during the winter when there is nothing to do. Our own taste of summer fun in the middle of winter. And considering the wild-slides is closed ,there is nothing like that in Regina anymore. Public water-slides are great!!!

Side note: The 10 acre lot behind husky house gas station/motel on prince of whales has been sold. That land has been on sale for years. It's a commercial/retailer parcel. I always thought this land would be great for a brand new target store in the east end??

If it is actually true that Cineplex will be building a new theatre, and if the City does approve it, then perhaps Rainbow Cinemas could move into the Old Cineplex spot, and perhaps we could get a smaller 4-6 Cinema theatre by a local brand or something to that extent built downtown as a starter.

I think right now the issue at hand is that we need more people living downtown first before a large theatre change decides to invest in our downtown tho I could be wrong.

Having a mixed use large scale development to be able to draw them and compliment it would also be something extremely useful and add the type of development downtown further needs. I know Galaxy built a stand alone theatre in downtown Saskatoon but how did the city get that accomplished and why hasn't Regina done the same?

I do agree that the Cineplex Southland is now dated and is not to par with the other Cineplex theatres and the Stadium Seating that is prefered these days (like the Galaxy Theatre North).

I emailed AMC theatres a while back in regards to them possibly competing in Regina and their response was:

This is the AMC mixed used development at Dundas Square in Downtown Toronto. The Theatre is now owned by Cineplex, but under the same look as AMC, which is absolutely gorgeous! The entire building is floors of retail, restaurants, and the Theatre.

Once Regina downtown creates a strong base of retail and restaurant with a larger immediate population, we should be able to attract larger developments of entertainment, yet I also do think if we just go for the big 🞵🞵🞵🞵 (cough cough CITY COUNCIL), and push as a public that we will not accept a new theatre development outside of downtown or give a LARGE TAX EXEMPTION TO CINEPLEX, then maybe they would consider.

I don't care about downtown development anymore, it's a mess with so much wasted opportunities. Sure we are getting new office building here and there with the odd new store and restaurant, but it's still just the same old downtown to most people. It's unfortunate that it's ending up this way.

But still, cool for a new movie theatre, I love going to the movies, but i live like 5 min away from Normanview that I'll prob never use it.

The city could also build a new indoor waterpark downtown, as there are no indoor public pools in that area. Something like the new indoor water centre for Regent Park...

Mostly though, MJMA has produced an outstanding piece of architecture that reminds us the city is about more than acceptable mediocrity and rigid adherence to arbitrary regulations and unfounded assumptions. The modest $14.7 million budget notwithstanding, the firm has managed to balance the big moves and the finer touches to create a thing of remarkable power. The cantilevered walls, dramatic roof (green on top) and the counterintuitive geometry create an impression of dynamism, solidity and openness.

“It’s quite a joy,” says pool supervisor Gary Sanger, who credits local councillor Pam McConnell with keeping the project alive and even making it better than initially planned. “People love it. The architects listened to what we said. We’re very pleased.”

IF we can spend hundreds of millions on a new stadium...what is 15 million to build something useful to the general public for everyday use!?

Ya I have to agree with Le-Tank. This situation has become frustrating. Downtown still seems like its in ruins at times. Broad street, with it's boarded up storefronts, and surface Parking is a disgrace for the most part. I'm sick of seeing parking lots on corners, that is not what a big city should look like. If this movie theatre goes somewhere other than Downtown, than I'm afraid that's it for our core. I try to remain optimistic but it's hard when impark and Harvard own downtown. One tooth still hasn't been leased, which just shows how

What stores does Saskatoon have that you wish Regina would get? Downtown is a work in progress and has IMO come along way over the past 5 years.

In response to migs; Boathouse, build a bear, F2 fashions, Guess, Kernels, Lush, Mexx, Sephora, American Apparel.
That's just Midtown Plaza and area. I don't mean to troll, and I really don't like to be negative, but it's frustrating. They have these nice stores, while we have empty spaces in the Cornwall/Scarth street mall and area. I want this city to be attractive, to be a place that can entice shoppers. I acknowledge that it's getting better, but really Hamilton street has lost all it's retail for the most part, and there are still plenty of empty spaces in the area. I have alwas thougt a nice place for a move theatre would be The large parking lot on Hamilton and Rose. Across from Atlantis, Flip, Crave, Golfs. That would be an awesome spot it is such a prime location, but of course there are parking lots there. They should never have been allowed to become parking lots. But hey we do need parking becaused of stores/restaurants/options, we have plenty of office towers. Sorry of this comes off as negative, I'm always the first person to defend this town, but at times it's difficult

It is like a combination of: The Sopranos; The Simpsons and Family Guy. Anyhow, they do show quite a few of our buildings in that show --- and they get it right quite a bit of the time. Yeah I saw them, and I thought it was pretty good. If I remember correctly, the creators are from here but went to the U of R for film/media.

I've been pushing for a downtown theatre for years. Truly sad to see a theatre go up in the hell-hole that is Harbour Landing.

Saskatoon has a theatre downtown, and two more within walking distance. We're stuck with the single screen RPL.
