Hmmm.... there seem to be about 4 condos which will be ready before or at teh same time as the Icon that the architect curiously omitted. Perhaps the title of the article should read - Toronto architect draws one of many new condos changing Little Italy skyline.

The Claridge Homes tower still needs fine design work, but the rezoning allowing the 45-storey building to be constructed at the northeast corner of Preston Street and Carling Avenue was approved unanimously, even getting the backing of Somerset Councillor Diane Holmes, who represents the area.
“This is an appropriate area for that height,” Holmes said. The more tall buildings that go in on Carling, she figures, the fewer will creep up Preston Street into Little Italy.

Rico, I keep an eye on the Montreal forums and trust me, we've been waiting a LONG time for something like this. I never believed it really would happen, but the mid-rise saturation is at critical and I don't think they have any more choice in the matter. It's up or the alternative, which a lot of people can't handle in the form of sprawl.

Was there a "guess-timation" timeline supplied by the developers for; pre-sales, construction, completion? Or does this decision simply allow the developer to hang on to a corner parking lot for years to come? It's been quite some time since I was last at that corner, are there any buildings that will be left to rot before final demolition?
Any chance the area would be deemed "historical" thereby delaying development? ...I say in jest.

There was a comic I read as a kid where Donald Duck was building a fence at the same time as his neighbour, each trying to outdo each other in height, all to calamitous results. This could be fun to watch!
