Speaking of...

According to SFGOV, 201 Folsom was issued a building permit on 3/20/13. I know Tishman Speyer said they were going to proceed as soon as they received their permit.

Simms: I believe that the fenced off lot across from 535 mission is owned by golden gate university. it has been fenced off like that for as long as i can remember. i know of no plans regarding the log.

Jerry, I noticed this morning from home that the crane on the main NEMA tower has been jumped to what will probably be its final height. Are you able to give us a shot of it from your vantage point?

Coming home this afternoon via the Bay Bridge and the Central Freeway, I wondered if I'd ever seen so many cranes over the city at one time. It's amazing.

I think we're all having an amazing version of this experience; this morning I was picking out a plethora of things with my binoculars. I was really surprised how much I could see the construction projects at Market/15th/Sanchez and Market/Page/Franklin from my place since I had't previously focused upon them in light of so many others.

ORH II is also beginning to really show from here.

viewguy Wow! I had not noticed that the crane was raised. They are usually raised during the night or on the weekend so as not to disrupt the traffic too much. It was probably raised last night. I have a limited view of the 35 story portion of the tower. I used to see the red air safety light on my plane, but now it is well above the 27 floor level of my apartment. Here is a view from my apartment this eveing, Sat. Mar. 30th, 2013.

Agreed! A hub on Upper Market with the Muni Metro station below. Be great to see a 5 story flatiron on the Chevron site. Pipe dreams? Has anyone heard of plans in the works?

With the news that 181 Fremont and the Transbay Tower will be breaking actual ground soon, I thought I'd put together a list of all the office towers that should be under construction this summer:

Foundry III (2014): 286,000 sq ft
535 Mission (2014): 307,000 sq ft
350 Mission (2015): 450,000 sq ft
222 Second St (2015): 430,000 sq ft
181 Fremont (2015): 420,000 sq ft
Transbay Tower (2017): 1,400,000 sq ft

Altogether, this is about 3.3 million sq ft, which is all speculative, except for 350 Mission, which is for Salesforce. This seems a little frothy and bubblelicious, but I hope it's sustainable. After these projects, I don't think there are many other office towers in the pipeline, besides maybe 50 First St, which seems a long ways off.

I haven't, unfortunately, but I also agree on the extreme desirability of it being replaced. and I'm pretty sure, if it goes, that would bring the number of gas stations on Market to... zero.

Also of note is the Golden Gate University site for potential 700' height development, and several other possible project sites we have not yet discussed much here we hope to see more of in the future.

This is the first news article I've seen confirming that the 174-room hotel at 942 Mission is indeed under construction:

well, that guy also criticized such well-known "eyesores" as the amazing morphosis-designed perot museum in dallas, the london 'shard', and the broad museum in los angeles.

man, that mission street hotel is in the right place. with the union square portion of market pushing further with the cityplace development + the 5m project around the chronicle + the convention center expansion, a hotel at that space on mission looks set to be successful pretty much forever.

Agreed on both counts. Most of his critique is difficulty of adaptive reuse...as if the Transbay Terminal will be used for anything other than a transit terminal for the next 50+ years.

The mission street hotel is in a good location. I just hope they rehab that whole area of mission street, from 3rd all the way down to 10th. New apartments/condos and storefronts would be ideal

No lie, before I read the blurb but I saw the picture, I thought he was only calling it an eyesore after the glass was dropped in lieu of the aluminum redesign.
