Are they still going to heat the units with the piezoelectric sensors they installed on the Lionsgate?

Only until the bridge has been removed at the park board's behest. Afterward, the place will be wood-fire heated, with logs harvested in the neighbourhood.

Hey mods, you need to update the guys over at skyscraper.com because I think they've got the height wrong on this one. I didn't want to update them because I'm never sure if they're measuring to the top of the spire or the top of the observation deck.

my understanding is that the height was still being kept a secret so that another city didn't build one even higher. We probably won't know the official height until it's topped out.

Apparently they will be going wood-frame.
Now with the 6 floor maximum upped from 4, they will be able to implement a retail podium every 6 floors (in essence starting anew) and by doing so, max out at 10 podiums or 60 floors.

It's all good

I think that was misinterpreted by a reporter reading the documents, the whole building is still concrete/steel, it's only the exterior that will be clad in wood siding, with the exception of every 5th floor in glass to break it up. I think recycling the concrete from the viaducts into the project is pretty novel though.

Can someone send me a link to something about this project? It sounds really interesting, but a quick search has proven somewhat unproductive in trying to glean information on it.

Maybe I've missed it, but I'm surprised that the Intergulf redevelopment of the Quality in at 1335 Howe Street hasn't been mentioned. They hosted an open house yesterday evening. They are not technically an applicant yet but I'm sure we'll see something submitted soon. I didn't grab any photos but some details include: A round, 360' tower on a 7 storey podium. 5 units per floor from 7-25, 3 units per floor from 26-39. 4,100 sf floorplate, total density is 8.0 FSR (I didn't grab a square footage number). Ramsey Worden are the architects.

News to me.
That'll make 2 towers on that block with the Il Giardino site.

Thanks!

Meant to go but couldn't, here's a render from the architects site.

What is the taller tower rendered in the background? It appears to be standing on the site reserved for the 1283 Howe Street proposal. But that proposal is for 114 metres, just 5 metres taller than this one. The building in the render seems much taller.

On another note, Howe Street will be developing quite the canyon of towers around the bridgehead when you consider all the future buildings either proposed or under construction (i.e., this one, 1283 Howe, Maddox, 1400 Howe and the future Granville Loop building pictured in the right foreground above). It's too bad that the short, little companion buildings to 1400 Howe are such a waste. Two beautiful, tall, slender flat iron towers would be perfect for those wedge-shaped spaces between the Granville Bridge and the Howe Street on-ramp and Seymour Street off-ramp. Now that would be a canyon.

It's just a render - it would have to be 1283 Howe.
This one is also downhill from that one.

I like it! The circular, "sculpted" aspect of it is a refreshing change for mostly-rectangular Vancouver. (... I just wonder about the window glass colour, though. More sea-green?)

Cool design, but I also wonder what is the exact location for that? I hadn't though that the Quality Hotel would be developed. If it really is that location, there will be many dissapointed people that bought into Maddox. They are going to be surrounded with so many taller towers!
