Crain's Chicago Real Estate Daily is reporting that the 1.2 million square foot office high rise proposal by John O'Donnell at 150 N Riverside Plaza is having problems with Alderman Reilly since the proposal does not include a public riverfront park to walk along.

wow, stifling development for the sake of the public good as opposed to appeasing view-greedy NIMBY malcontents? interesting.

whatever eventually happens at 150 n riverside, mr. reilly is correct, public access to the riverfront must be a given.

Just drove by the Catalyst site in the West Loop. They have a crane, cassion drill, and several sleeves/drill bits ready to go on site. They've also already assembled at least one rebar cage. Looks like they'll be starting construction before the end of the week, if they haven't already.

Two highrise starts in one week, reminds me of the boom years.

With regards to buildings getting their own page such as Waterview Tower or Optima, will Catalyst get its own page? Is there a set criteria? This high rise and construction page is a total cluster of random buildings.

No. This building is on the other side of the river. Right along the river at Lake.

Too bad that principle doesn't apply to Wolf Point.

how do you figure that it doesn't? the plan approved for wolf point includes public access to the riverfront via a riverwalk.

Riversize Plaza barely seems to exist as a street or anything beyond a cartographical hiccup. I think it means here (Google Street View), or Randolph and the river.

Sounds like they want to do the same thing as River Point: build a platform over the Amtrak tracks and build a tower on top of that. Depending on how big the parcel is and what the building plan is, its river frontage could — right up against River Point's.

Alderman Reilly seems to want them to take advantage of that fact and provide some type of public riverwalk plaza, like River Point is. It'd be great if they could be connected into one cohesive plaza under Lake Street. This would be right across the water from the new Riverwalk project, too.

The river area seems to hold a lot of promise, as others have pointed out.

The Crain's article is confusing about what Reilly wants versus what the developer is proposing. The article makes it sound like the elevated plaza would be higher than street level, and only accessible from the building interior.

A plaza that is "elevated" at bridge level is definitely appropriate for the site; it's just a continuation of Riverside Plaza. In fact, an bridge-level plaza would be more well-used than a river-level one; the lower level would be difficult to get to and secluded, while the upper level would be tied into the life of the street. Plus, a river-level walkway can't be extended any further south than Washington; there'll never be a continuous river-level walkway on the South Branch.

The Boeing Building, 100 N Riverside Plaza, has both a river-level plaza that is closed off for about half the year and also has a bridge-level plaza. The river-level one is quite nice during the summer and warmer months. Its nice seeing the tour boats and water taxis at that level.

River Pointe (444 Lake), they started drilling cassions this week did they not? I assume those cassions are going to be the same ones carrying the weight of the tower as well as the plaza. That sounds to me like construction considering there will be no way for them to possible drill a second set of cassions through the platform they are constructing right now. I'm not sure why it is still in the "proposals" section.

Oh, nice. Hopefully they can connect that to this hypothetical new development, too.

Then all we'd need is a pedestrian bridge from River Point to Wolf Point and you could do a whole river-walking tour.

The caissons to date are all on the E side of the tracks - plaza only. Still looks like they are getting ready for some hefty belled piers - the E side of the span across the tracks ?

Looks like UC to me ;=)
