another new one for today, a Joint venture between Cityzen developments (developers of the L Tower and Absolute) and Foster + Partners, a new development on the East side of Toronto's waterfront:

That's pretty comparable, no?

Or even better, this place;

Fair enough, both comparable, but kinda makes my point no?

Those look like just awful places to live. Not a desirable development to have in my city if you ask me, and I'm no nimby.

I would love the Dubai development in Toronto if it were a little more spaced out. I do like a certain amount of density, but agree with Leftcoaster here that those are too close together.

I've often thought that location on the waterfront would be prime for a large scale redevelopment. I like the look of this proposal initially. Although I still have doubts about public transit to the area. It would need a subway station or a smother stop on the GO.

Yes I'd agree that at first look it they certainly don't seem like desirable places to live. And architecturally the Dubai example looks like a cluster ****. Although I am partial to Ocean Heights(the rest is pretty much crappy pomo).

But is that the actual reality? Is having that many people occupy a small space such a bad thing? I'd probably lean towards yes, but I've never lived anywhere remotely similar to that kind of environment. Its hard to say unless someones actually experienced it.

Wow, all this stuff going on in Toronto is dizzying. I've seen that Cityzen project before somewhere. Anybody have an idea on height of those two larger towers?

As for the 1 Yonge project, I find it odd that an 88 storey residential tower has the same height as Aura which is a 78 storey condo. That's quite a smaller floor height. Shouldn't this thing be 1000ft? I read an article today which stated the 88 storey tower would be the tallest residential building in Canada... but if you base it on that sign, it's the same height as Aura.

These proposals are making the Toronto waterfront, in my opinion, look somewhat wonky as far as density goes.

There is currently a swath of lower-density projects underway to the east of the core -- and then further east this new proposal has density that suddenly shoots up again... It seems as though there is a lost scale of continuity that produces a patchy appearance that I find somewhat jarring.

The 272 meters is to the top floor. Not to the top of the roof element.

It could still break 300 meters/1000 feet.

I like multi-peaked cities. Like London, or Toronto right now with Downtown and Young and Eglinton, etc.

I think those taller towers actually give some contrast to Toronto, and for skyline shots from the island, it will look awesome!

Just look to New York for how separate peaks in the skyline works.

Regardless of personal opinions about skyline formations -- I think most of us can agree that it is a total asset to the City of Toronto that more development is occurring along the waterfront. The city is gradually reconnecting itself to Lake Ontario.

I, for one, am extremely enthusiastic for the redevelopment and naturalisation of the Lower Don Lands! If the preliminary plans for the area go forward it will be one of the city's most magnificent parks.

The east end of toronto is really developing beautifully. Goes to show what can happen when a neighbourhood is built with a strong central planning agency (waterfront toronto) and solid developers (Cityzen)

There's no way that they're already starting excavation at Eau de Soleil, is there?

No way they build a sales centre with 80% sold.

But is it approved?

I see it completely differently. The low and mid rise proposals on the waterfront to its west make sense, but what better introduction to the core than a punch of height at the mouth of Keating Channel?

To continue that low rise theme would have been under-whelming.
