Volkswagen’s parent company, Volkswagen AG, acquired the Porsche car making business last year. Volkswagen AG controls several other brands, including Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti.

One person with knowledge of the situation said negotiations are “far along,” and are pending approval of German government officials. The government of the German state of Lower Saxony is a partial owner of Volkswagen AG.A move by Volkswagen would not only put it next door with one of its marquee brands, but the site is also about 130 miles from Volkswagen’s massive plant in Chattanooga, where it makes Passat sedans.

Executives and managers also would have ready access to flights to much of the world, including manufacturing sites in the U.S., Mexico and South America.

College Football Hall of Fame

I thought Chattanooga was a little closer than 130 miles, but not much.

The article is referring to the site of VW plant in Chattanooga and not Chattanooga itself. I'm not sure where that plant is in Chattanooga but maybe its on the northern side of Chattanooga. The site in metro Atlanta in Hapeville is about 5 miles or so south of Downtown - so the distance between the two may not be so far off - especially if its driving distance.

If I'm not mistaken, the VW plant is in the NE metro between Hamilton Place Mall and Cleveland - so yeah, 130 miles sounds just about right.

I don't know if this was posted, but somehow I never saw it. Plans for Krog Street Market:

^Thanks so much for posting this, AtlantaMustang! I've seen this rendering before, but not this large and with the ability to see so much more detail.

I have to admit I haven't been over there in quite some time until a recent visit to Barcelona for a friends birthday brunch. Talk about being blown away by all of the fabulous changes in the neighborhood. It feels like a different place now, and it's only getting better and better.

Yeah, I'd seen the rendering too, but I wasn't exactly sure on placement of the apartments or retail. I work a few blocks north, and it's definitely amazing to see what's going on in the area. I'm very excited for this project and others in that area.

So, with things picking back up, does anyone think any of the following will re-surface?

- Allen Plaza (Office Building, Apartments, Condos, with ground floor retail including a grocery)
- Centennial Park Phase 2
- National Health Museum (somewhere on the East side of Centennial Park)
- Symphony Hall
- Atlanta Eye (giant Ferris Wheel near Centennial Park, similar to the London Eye)

The ferris wheel is undergoing permitting at the City right now. Thank goodness they've decided it won't be permanent - only 1.5 years or so.

Symphony Hall would be my preference. Never heard of the ferris wheel (might be a few more things to look at in London).

EDIT: Wow. I guess the London Eye people just go around peddling it to second tier cities. It's like the whole "painted cow" crap. Every city paints fiberglass(?) animals instead of showcasing their local artists.

What is happening with Civic Center?

What about the second tower at Twelve Centennial Park? There was supposed to be a mirror image tower on the north side of the hotel, right?

Is that for the "Atlanta Eye" concept or the cheesy carnival ride wheel they are erecting now for the Final Four?

Yeah, I forgot the "Twelve" in my previous post, but that's what I meant by "Centennial Park Phase 2."

WHAT?! More details! Where would it go??

Remember they said the London Eye would only be temporary as well....

Also, regarding Allen Plaza. Didn't the developer sell off the site?

Rumor has is that that is where the Novare/Batson Cook team is planning their third Skyhouse apartment tower in Atlanta. I don't know if they'll design a new Skyhouse tower that matches the design of the existing tower like initially planned or if they'll try to adapt their 23-story Skyhouse prototype to fit into the existing project.

The team is doing a temporary one for 1.5 years, maybe longer. It's coming to Atlanta from Paris or done thing like that. Pretty tacky, but so is Atlanta so I'm not surprised.

I live across the street so have the great pleasure of staring at it thorough 12/31/2014.

12 Midtown Tower/50 Allen Plaza

Hi everyone, I'm a former area resident, born and raised. I keep up with all Atlanta development - on the 1st page of this forum there is a proposal for Twelve Midtown, 746 feet, 50 plus floors, is that still floating around or is that completely dead? Also, 50 Allen Plaza, 34 floors, 500 feet - according to Emporis its status is planned/approved. I really liked the design of 50 Allen Plaza - if I'm not mistaken it's the building with the square/rectangle "hole" through the top? It's a pretty sharp design and would add to the downtown skyline...
does anyone have any information on these buildings? Thank you in advance!

OZ...

Those are some of the items mentioned in my post. The Allen Plaza area is several blocks of surface parking. That development could change the complexion of the Northern Downtown area.

Also, we need something to be done with the Southeast border of the Centennial Park area. The parking lots and crummy buildings there are horrible. Think of what it would be like to bridge between the park and the Fairlie-Poplar district.
