Any one know what used to be on the parking lot beside the Sirloin Cellar building? And how long it has been a parking lot?

It will still be nice to get the parking lots under control, even if the end product doesn't make a big impact on the skyline.

Happy April Fools!
Great, now I have to reload that thing, which takes for ever and then hope it doesn't crash when I save the redo.

RIP Zellers, 1988.

Here's a picture courtesy HPL (ca. 1950s?)

A more recent pic courtesy Lost Toronto (ca. early 1980s?)

I vaguely recall this Zellers. My mum used to drag us there Saturday mornings after going to the market and, of course, Eaton's basement. After that we'd stop in at Kresge's and Robinson's - it was a fate worse than death for a young child. Anyway, the facade was brick, terracotta and vitrolite: they just don't build 'em like that anymore.

You can see Grafton's/ Tip Top in both pics. That building went with the Zellers in the late 1980s. Shame, shame, shame.

Well at least I got to learn that.

Stumbled on this screengrab-calibre image of the late-period James North Zellers.

I think it could look better very easily. A 4-7 story mid rise of decent quality would look much better there I think. The two floor zellers looks totally out of place in those pictures.

Thanks for the Zellers info. I knew there was something there as a kid, but I couldn't remember.

With regards to that corner, that's the site I always think about when the what would you do as a developer threads come up.

^ Last I remembered Silvestri Investments owns the property. They built Cityview Terrace, Napier and Caroline.
