Shopping malls in Crisis in Bari, Italy

Basically in Bari, Italy the downtown retail streets have been suffering from the economy and these suburban malls. Now the crisis has hit the malls to. One of the most famous malls now has 20 stores closed just on one floor alone.

They are already speaking of dead malls, and these malls are not even that old. I am sure things will pick up when the economy does. But weird to hear malls I visited just over a year and a half ago are now almost ghost towns.

Here in Vegas we have lots of vacant homes because the economy is bad and stuff. Also, I saw a street hooker named Tapioca emerging one of those vacant homes who told me "get off my lawn!" when her 'lawn' was just a bunch of rocks. True story.

Random question: do you know of any particular subdivisions that are 'ghost towns' that you can still travel to? Heading to Vegas in May & would love to get to one of these areas. Since everything was finished in '06-07 (last time I was there was spring '07) I imagine wear & tear has to be beginning as well, no?

Bari is in Apulia, which is one of the poorest states in Italy. Considering the Italian economy is more than a bit troubled, it makes sense that its poorest states are feeling an extra pinch.

In any case, I doubt the shopping mall is an endangered species in Italy. I know suburban Rome is littered with them, and there's barely a Roman department store that isn't connected to a suburban mall.
