They probably thought the bank would just be demolished and replaced with something bigger up against 1 James.
I actually didn't know it was that new. Well if all of the buildings between 1 james and HSBC were gone, there would be huge room for a massive development - hopefully a big tower! - Oh gosh, I'm getting ideas already!

True about there being room for a massive development if all of the buildings between 1 james and HSBC were gone, but recently some were stopped from demolition and now have to be incorporated into the design of the official project being built there by David Blanchard.

Have you seen David Blanchard's Proposal for the site? I thought you posted a rendering you made of his tower a while ago...

Here is a more recent render of that project:

^ The bank and the grey buildings to it's left have to stay, the blacked out buildings will be demolished. I'd love to see what you could come up with for the site.

Oh yes, I've seen this proposal - not a fan at all. It seems like they just whipped up something real quick just for the sake of shoving something in there.

I make a render a while back for a tall tower - nothing solid - it was just a "what if".

Being gore park, that area really needs to have something thats going to attract people - office on top and storefronts below. something really street friendly - to go with the Gore Park master plan. And maybe something new can hide that big blank wall of 1 james!

Westin Tower - Concept - Final Revision

So after a long time finessing my render and adding an additional shorter tower for stores, I think what I've come up with is a good idea for that space. Also keeping with the original proposed diagram and footprint of that space, I think my concept would work.

Let me know what you guys think!

It's perfect. I really wish something like that would get built instead of just the 2 stumpy 12-storey towers.

Thanks Thomas! I really do hope something tall gets built. If not as tall as this, something you can see the top of from a distance.

Awesome. It's gonna be great when TOD projects like this become a reality in Hamilton.

How about a new Convention Centre or renovating the current Convention Centre.

What about twin towers? I'd love it if the Oxford Place proposal from Toronto moved to Hamilton. Toronto already has the CN Tower which is a major icon for the city, and Hamilton won't likely beat the CN Tower's height anytime soon. Twin towers would be great because they wouldn't have to beat the CN Tower for height or many of the other tallest buildings in the country, they could be the tallest twin towers in the country and become an instant icon for Hamilton.

Well I do like twins vs a single when it comes to unique buildings. That would definitely be a good challenge for me! Where did you think these twin towers should go? In replace of the Ellen Fairclough building? or some other location?

Who reads these forums?

Something I forgot to ask everyone, who reads these forums besides us enthusiastic people? Do any developers, mp's mayors, other city officials?

I'm curious to know!

^Yeah, I'd like to see that, too.

I've got a pretty big project for you. This is my 'plan' for a new market square.

Imagine Jackson Square plaza being at street level and not raised above the street as it is now.

The blue lines denote through streets - Market street running east-west and Park street running north-south. The red hash lines denote pedestrian streets running from King into the square.

The part of Jackson Square located directly under Stelco Tower, Thomson, the Sheraton, etc. would be gutted-out and redesigned to be accessible from the street - Market street and King street in this case.

There would be a large square located behind the library/ market, with residential located along Park beside Copps and anywhere else it can be jammed in.

It might be hard for others to conceptualise. Imagine something vaguely similar to Quincy Market in Boston...but new.

How about this location? Two mostly empty lots right next to each other and are big enough for 2 80+ floor towers.

Blue Outline = Tower Locations
Red Outline = Property lines/Podiums
