Ate at the Irish Bred Pub for lunch today. Food was good. Our server was good, kitchen was a little slow.

The place was packed, with a line of people waiting to get in. Hopefully, it'll be the cornerstone of a Lower Dexter renaissance.

Midtown Pizza Kitchen will evolve into "MPK" and add a second Montgomery location very soon. It's out east somewhere.

...The new Celtic-themed pub, which will be adjacent to 1048 Jazz and Blues and across the street from Sinclair’s, will focus on Cloverdale’s history.

The business will be named after William Graham, the first mayor of Cloverdale who founded it in 1819. Cloverdale was originally known as Graham’s Woods. The pub’s logo is the badge of the Graham Clan of Scotland.

Watson said he hopes to have the pub open by mid-summer. The plan is to gut the inside of the space where the jewelry store was, but keep the exterior bricks and add windows to the east wall. The area will have skylights, ceiling fans, window walls for ventilation and access to a rooftop bar. The space next door, where The Look Boutique used to be, will be the main part of the pub.

Watson said he plans to have a theme-appropriate menu, authentic Celtic entertainment and a variety of “the finest” single-malt Scotch whisky.

Façade improvements and upgrades to the sidewalks and parking spaces are included in Watson’s plans for the properties...

The way I'm reading his comment is that this will cause something negative at Eastdale Mall.

This is a GREAT building with TONS of potential. Whenever we are in it, my mind races at the possibilities. Awesome windows on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. Stay tuned!

Bishop-Parker to sell building housing downtown location

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A turn-of-the-century building located in a prime location of downtown Montgomery is about to go on the market. The building, located at 152 Coosa Street, is currently owned and used by Bishop-Parker Furniture Company.

Bishop-Parker has awarded a marketing assignment to professional services and investment management firm Jones Lang LaSalle which will look for a buyer interested in the 80,000 square foot building.

Sitting in the Central Business District of downtown Montgomery, the four-story, 106-year-old building is in a prime location directly across from Riverwalk Stadium and within walking distance to the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Convention Center, the Alley Entertainment District, the Riverwalk Amphitheatre and City Hall.

The property is described as "one of the crown jewels of the Riverfront" and is said to be in "excellent condition".

Thanks BlakFlava, the link does work and this is great news. It makes all the sense in the world to put the Planetarium, Children's Museum, and Library in the new QuestPlex Building.

Now if we could only find a way to relocate Skate Park close to it and rent out the other space to Books-A-Million and a Starbucks.

Funds will improve roads and coliseum, build courthouse

Montgomery residents could see major changes around the city over the next few years, including improved roads, a new municipal courthouse and the possibility of a renovated Garrett Coliseum.

On Tuesday, the Montgomery City Council approved the authorization of a $25 million credit line that will be used to fund $5 million in road repairs, $5 million for the Park Crossing connector road and other projects.

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said the city will also have up to $6 million of that credit line available for renovations to Garrett Coliseum, should a plan between the city, state and county to spend up to $30 million in renovations move forward...

Though I wish that the planetarium could move to the riverfront, the Questplex would be a good fit. BTW, I think Union Station or the Bishop Parker building would make an excellent location for the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.

The Bishop-Parker warehouse desperately needs to be mixed-use retail. (ie. grocery/department/boutique stores/restaurants)

There's a big push to get people to live downtown, and I think that's great. But there is nothing to sustain long-term residency downtown. Why would I live downtown when I have to drive ~15 minutes away for groceries? Imagine a Whole Foods...or even a Publix or Kroger...on the bottom floor of the warehouse. Building a parking deck in the current parking lot on West Jefferson, beside the warehouse, would help with parking, too.

retail follows rooftops. You've got to have more density first. And it's getting there, slowly. The economy isn't helping things any.
